Half-Life is definitely a game-changing FPS, inspired by the classics but also genre-breaking.

The first half of the game was very long and pretty repetitive. Although that kind of makes sense (since they're in a giant underground lab), it also made the first half of the game feel very grindy (for lack of a better term). I just felt that I had to power through the game in order to play Half-Life 2 and that drove me to get to the second half. I found the second half of the game to be much more fun.

Looking back on my 12 hours of playtime (not sure if that's too short/long/just right), I had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed a game that came out years ago, and now realize why people love the game the way they do.

You can play Half-Life: Source to have better lighting and water effects. You can play Black Mesa though it's a remake more than a port and some things like level design change a lot.

Half-life defined the first-person shooter genre and will always be talked about.
