After an admittedly long time, and many mistakes made along the way, I consider this game a worthy sequel to Overwatch.

Stadium alone is an amazing mode, and now that the dev team appear to have their house in order the future looks bright for this game. There's still a lot missing, but for what the game is now, I can only recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys an incredibly unique, balanced and polished hero shooter.

As someone who never played SG1, this game rocks. Most of the negative reviews are about server issues, which are still present, but the dev is working to fix. I really only have a few small nitpicks (about the actual gameplay).

The class system, albeit feeling a bit undercooked, is simple and fun, and very accessible to new players. I liked that I just had to choose a class and a gun, and then I could just start playing. It'd be nice if all the basic gun types were unlocked by default, and leveling up gave variations of each - but I don't find it too offensive.

Same story with the microtransactions, I don't find them particularly offensive. Though, it's a bit silly how few cosmetics are available to F2P players. At least the default / free stuff in this game doesn't look fugly.

4v4 mode

The respawn timer on the 4v4 modes feels just a little bit too low, and the maps just a little bit too small. This culminates in feeling like you're playing an 8-player FFA on Nuketown in Black Ops 2, which is fun, but it means individual kills aren't really impactful. Hell, even killing 3 or 4 people doesn't feel that impactful because you've probably gained a teeny amount of objective progress before they've all respawned and rolled out to assault you again.

Don't get me wrong, this is fun, but not very competitive. Against a team of similar skill, games are just a bit too chaotic and their outcomes a bit too random.

But on that bomb-defusal submode (I think it was called Firecracker), this feels really unfun, especially when you're defending. As mentioned in another review, by the time you've cleared an objective, went to set up the bomb / defuse it, the enemy team has already respawned and are gunning you down. It's really tedious for the defenders because defusing the bomb once isn't a win, you need to prevent a detonation for the entire round time.

Sabrask Shield

I really like that the abilities don't have a massive impact on the game to the point where it feels like you need to learn how every class works in order to play around each one (like Overwatch)...

With one massive exception, Sabrask's shield. It completely breaks the pace of the game and is way too good at shutting down plays. This game feels fun and fair because it removes the defender's advantage with portals, but shields bring it right back.

It has a silly amount of hitpoints - there straight up is no breaking it before you die; the player who deployed it can shoot through both sides, so even if you flank them / portal to them, they can just weave back and forth keeping it between you and them; and it seems to only decay away when the deploying player dies / redeploys it - either way, it exists on the map too long.

This is made even worse if there are multiple Sabrasks on the other team, it becomes shooting shields: the game. Not fun to play against, persistent fun-denying stuff like this is what killed Overwatch 1.

Non-gameplay stuff

The Battle Royale mode isn't bad, it's just not needed. Apex Legends is a better BR in every way to this game's version, the portal gimmick just isn't enough to make it something I'd care about / enjoy over other offerings, even Fortnite tbh. I hope they focus more on the other modes like 4v4 and 8v8v8 because they are what I play this game for, and judging by the other reviews, what other people play for as well. I understand other's concerns about it taking too much of the dev's attention away from other parts of the game, this is a valid reason to oppose it being in the product.

really love the game, an amazing all-round underwater survival. I was afraid of the land areas being janky but they work just as well.

quite posibly one of the best and most addicting games ive ever played, really easy to learn mechanics and interface. The perfect rocket building simulator for everyone. BUT, mods are quite difficult to install and instructions are vague (i think you should use the steam workshop for mods) but other than that 10/10 game.
