I caught a town guard in a (not)pokeball and now he sleeps on the floor at the foot of my bed. Very good! This game clearly looks like a bit of a joke, but it's pretty fun - it's basically like Rust meets Pokemon and set in Valheim, with a huge crafting list to progress in. I was really surprised with how much content there is in here already, but it is a little glitchy in places, as to be expected. Some of the crafting elements are a little tedious, but I'm not hugely familiar on games like that anyway. Still, I'm enjoying it very much and I'm more focused on exploration and catching Pals than the building side of things, which is great if you join a larger guild to allow the focus to be spread out a little.

It's definitely worth the price, and seeing how large the player base is already, it's a great start to see how this game will progress into the future. The Pals are amazing too, and it already feels better than what Pokemon has been for the last few years. Seeing cool looking creatures in the distance does spur on excitement to go out and catch them, and they each have different skill sets that can complement your game style. Some might be better as guardians of your base, or miners, collectors etc. But some are more suited to travel with you and can provide nice traversal skills. The map from what I've seen so far is nice and colourful, no complaints here! It's roughly the same depth and complexity as Breath of the Wild I'd say.

Pros:
Lots of different gameplay elements fused together, there's really something for everyone, whether you're focused on exploring, fighting and catching beasts, to going in deep creating an efficient factory in your base.
Pal designs are great!
Lots of potential to be fleshed out even further.

Cons:
A little glitchy in places.
Not much of a soundtrack, sometimes exploring can feel a little empty.
Character designer kinda sucks, you can tell it's focused on girl characters and males are basically variants that have a wider waist.

Don't support the predatory anti-consumer practices that Capcom are trying to sneak into older games. Vote with your wallets people. Take to the high seas instead and teach these idiot money grubbing fools a lesson

I was actually having fun with this game until I ran into a game breaking bug that glitches your save files, forcing you to restart. You know this happens as the games terrible checkpoint system forces a hang - you can check in APPDATA Local folders and see the save files are now randomly over 200mb when they should be kb. After that, you can't load them and the playthrough is bugged.

The irony was, the game has mixed reviews for OTHER reasons. I was thinking, hey, they're being pretty unfair and it's a decent game (now the price is a bit lower), but come on, a bug like this when the game has been out for so long? Clearly a broken and inferior product. Apparently I can fix this by starting again, but why tf should I?

Edit : I actually replayed through again - the same glitch happened in the same place. I made manual saves along the way in case it happened again so I could revert, but it corrupted autosaving from those too! Incredibly terrible.

Ender Lilies was a very enjoyable foray into the Metroidvania genre of games. Essentially it's an action orientated platforming game with a deep sense of exploration following a story that progresses through diverse landscapes and biomes, rewarding the player with progressionary items that helps them navigate the landscape. Each section opens up as you progress, leading to new discoveries along the way, though this could frustrate players less accustomed to exploration.
The storyline is fairly cryptic; you see the results of something terrible happening and the fallout of those complications, slowly piecing the narrative together through memories gained from killing bosses and collectable diaries. It's interesting enough to keep you engaged and wanting to find out more.

As you progress, you purify certain corrupted monsters through which you gain new abilities, very similar to the GBA Castlevania games. These abilities increase your combatitive qualities as well as allow you to travel more effectively throughout the world. Difficulty wise, it can be frustrating in parts. I feel as though if you invested in the wrong combat abilities things could be quite tough indeed. The dodging and acrobatics of the player are good though, but certain bosses are very difficult and could prove challenging for a lot of players.

Essentially, it's a very tried and tested formula. It does everything it sets to do out well, and feels like a really decent amount of content without particularly padding out it's length - I wasn't feeling too frustrated backtracking, but did get lost a few times. That said, the map is super useful and a welcome addition to a game like this, especially as a completionist! It will very helpfully show unexplored routes and even a completion indicator showing if you've missed any items along the way.

Pros:

Excellent game map, very useful to the players needs unlike other games in this genre.
Beautiful backdrops.
A lot of love and consideration in the combat abilities.
Interesting lore and cool enemy designs.

Cons:

On a high end machine, my fans were going harder than in much higher graphic games. Poor optimisation perhaps?
Fairly cryptic progression in parts of the game.
Backtracking can be frustrating.

Visage was a very enjoyable experience as a horror enjoyer, and is very clearly inspired by the abandoned project P.T, the spiritual successor of the Silent Hill games that was originally being developed for PS4. Essentially, the game takes place within one large house in which the main character finds clues and follows several storylines. These clues are typically interaction based, but there are regular threats which tend to come in the form of the ghost each storyline represents. Currently there are 3 major 'ghosts', which can be done in different orders. The horror varies with each one, and will certainly pique different players interests depending on the subject matter.

The game is simple, and the horror is straightforward and regular, though I did encounter a couple of glitches in my playthrough - either certain events wouldn't trigger, reducing the horror aspect to frustration at those moments, but overall I really enjoyed my time with the game and can certainly recommend it at the price point I bought it for. I did resort to using a guide a couple of times - some progression items such as keys can be VERY small and hard to notice - the developers could perhaps point out some items better in places.

Pros:

Clearly inspired by good horror games, yet does its own things well.
Engaging storylines, particularly 'Lucy' and 'Dolores'.
Great pacing and as difficult as it needs to be.
It's genuinely creepy and the environments are imposing.
Very enjoyable exposition.

Cons:

The puzzles can be a little TOO cryptic in places, with items in particular being easy to miss.
Several crashes in playthrough, but at least the autosave is fairly often.
Expendable items are very limited.
The game is way too dark and there are certain points in the 'Lucy' chapter where this got outright frustrating trying to find my way around pitch black corridors.

Darktide is a horde shooter set in the dystopian realms of 40k. Its visually dark, future gothic aesthetic fits the brutality faced in a game of overwhelming numbers of enemies versus a close knit team of players. Much like other games in this genre, it throws waves of simplistic enemies with special ones thrown in at random, while the team tries to go from A to B, sometimes solving objectives along the way.

The player takes control of 1 - 4 roles in the game, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, variants in skill trees and different weapons. Eventually the player will start to craft weapons, though the optimal abilities are random in nature and thus can be expensive (in terms of in game currency) and time consuming to pursue, which can be frustrating for long term players, min maxing types or perfectionists in general!

Ultimately the game is very enjoyable to play, the levels are crafted well and there's no prior experience with Warhammer required to play as it ties into the universe in a very open ended way. The controls are tight and responsive, classes stand out fairly well from eachother and the variations in skill trees give way to some great customisation. It's fun, but offers challenge to those who seek it. Despite any earlier controversies Darktide has had, you can tell the developers of the game care very much through the constant updates to get Darktide to a good state and fresh with meaningful content.

Pros:
Very fluid gameplay, genuinely enjoyable to play.
Great soundtrack that fits the Grimdark universe perfectly.
Respects the lore of the source material.

Cons:
Teams required for the harder difficulties.
Frustrating RNG on creating end game weaponry.
Predatory with paid cosmetics.
Very slow updates. Should not have been released as a live service game.

Phasmophobia is ultimately a very entertaining game with a straightforward gameplay loop. Aesthetically, it's actually pretty janky, though this kind of works in its favour - me and my friends spent a lot of time laughing at the messed up animations and clipping through surfaces with our dead eyed ghost hunter characters. It's even funnier when you see a VR player pop in.

Definitely recommended, it's spooky when it needs to be, and the game is easy to understand and difficult enough to master - a combination rather rare! I believe that there's a great platform here, an original one at that, so in time with a lick of paint and some more content this could be even better.

Only thing I'd recommend is understanding that this is ultimately quite a social game - you will really need to use your mics to get the most out of this game. That said, I've NEVER seen a community as friendly as this one and have met so many cool and nice people on here. Highly recommended game!

Pros:
Pretty much nails the spookiness factor.
Excellent community.
Often entertaining.
Simple to understand while having things to learn.

Cons:
Takes a very long time to unlock all the gear. Personally ranking up should be much faster.
Large map gameplay needs some work.
Dev team is rather small so content is few and far between.
Not a huge amount of maps currently.

Unfortunately, Starfield has fell short of expectation to quite a degree. Maybe we've been spoiled with better games this year, but I've actively struggled to play and keep interest in Starfield. It is ultimately just another Bethesda game, just with a lick of paint. Yet, everything seems a bit sterile, especially the writing and dialogue choices. Much of the gameplay is jarring too, from random text pop ups patronzing my intelligence in certain quests, from the speed bumps of constantly fast travelling between galaxies and planets. That, combined with the typical Todd Howard jank like followers having a seizure on parts of the environment and dead eyed NPCs with eyes bulging out of their heads, this game feels very phoned in. Any immersion is interrupted constantly with annoying handholding elements too.

Remember when Bethesda introduced us to radiant quests? It's almost like that was extended to an entire game. It just feels a bit soulless, and on discussing the game with my friends we agreed a lot of aspects of the game feel as though they were generated by AI. It's a shame, and undoubtedly one day modders will make it better, but that's never an excuse. It's just not very impressive to boast about so many explorable planets when almost all of them have been procedurally generated.

Essentially, I can't recommend this game in its current state. It's either in your face, holding your hand and patronising you every step of the way, or once off the beaten track of the games narrative, it's dull and boring.

Pros:
Building is just as addictive as before.
This is probably as good as this now aging game engine will ever look.

Cons:
Uninspired story.
Stale gameplay loop (more fetch quests Bethesda?).
Way too many loading screens.
Unintuitive planetary GUI.
While better than Fallout, the gunplay can feel quite stiff, especially with bullet sponge enemies.
Almost purposefully annoying quests.. looking at you, crappy stealth mission with a grandma telling you what to do.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been an absolute pleasure to play, and has been an incredible return to form considering how long ago its predecessor was released. It's hard to put into few words, but Larian have managed to culminate years of experience with careful and well thought out design choices that have resulted in something artistically beautiful and narratively compelling, all with a surprising amount of freedom in gameplay. Having played many games in my time, I found that usually something had to be sacrificed in order to excel in any particular area - however BG3 has exceeded all of my expectations and then some. It's been a very long time since I almost felt sorrowful that the journey came to an end, but I am grateful having had it. I think both the development team at Larian and the voice actors have done a superb job in creating this masterpiece.

I could never say something is perfect, but this is close, minus a few bugs and glitches here and there. It's almost expected when a game is as wide and deep as this. For example, the worst offender were certain companions throwing themselves at you, which almost feels buggy at times. One particular occasion I had to turn down the same party member (Gale) down 3 times, and sometimes the dialogue options seemed way too overly harsh. It might simply be a double edged sword where modern games need unisex romance options, however it makes more sense that our adventuring party eventually becomes best friends. I'll always consider Mass Effect's Shepherd / Garrus friendship to be one of the best.

Pros:
Some of the best voice acting I've heard yet in a videogame.
Stunning visuals and a beautiful OST to accompany your adventure.
Almost too much replayability with the slew of available origin characters to choose from.
Satisfying combat allowing for strategy and freedom of gameplay.
A sheer mass of content to explore and enjoy.
Genuinely lovable party members - even the ones I wasn't fond of still feel like friends.

Cons:
Act 3 feels slightly more rushed and less polished than the previous acts.
Some dialogue feels hamfisted and several romance options in particular seem forced upon you out of the blue. I feel this could have been improved with more obvious 'start romance' options.
Some bugs towards the end of the game regarding smaller choices made earlier in the game, but nothing too major.

Being a late adopter and a huge lover of the Fallout series, this is probably one of the more forgiving reviews here. But, I believe ultimately in its current state, Fo76 is a lot of fun and more of the same, which is why I assume anyone would play this!

Many of the regular gameplay loops and mechanics are still here when compared to older iterations of Fallout, but with some expected additions one would expect for an MMO offering.

Yes, it's somewhat marred with a clunky inventory management system (which is now more important than ever now you can't dump your loot in a random footlocker) and of course, microtransactions. To talk a bit more about that, your stash is limited to 1200lbs. On your person, around 150lbs or so depending on your build. That 1200lbs needs to carry your weapons, armor, healing items, and junk for base building- however, with their patented pay monthly system, you get access to annoyingly good quality of life implementations including a bottomless box (limited to ammo and junk to be fair, but it DOES make a difference).

So yeah, feels a tad unfair at times, and the item management is made worse with a seemingly miniscule container to work with really. That said, you can full on enjoy what the game has to offer regardless if you're a big spender or not- you'll just be doing it less efficiently (and with less style).

Onto the good, its the same fun formula and aesthetic, with new additions, a lot of content, decent activities, new enemies and a big new map to explore. And of course, for me, playing Fallout multiplayer for the first time is great and fits surprisingly well. The player base is also one of the nicest I've interacted with out of a fair few communities!

Pros:
Appalachia is a well made world map, and all the visual storytelling is present.
It might not have been the case around launch, but there's a lot of content to get through.
Camp building is back and it's just as addictive.
Difficulty curve is fair for an MMO, I didn't feel useless out the gate.
A nice community that for the most part want to help.

Cons:
Bathesda is somewhat predatory when it comes to microtransactions.
The cool stuff, of course, is for payers only.
The best quality of life items are locked behind the monthly payment wall.
Camp sizes feel a little bit on the smaller side.
Occasionally painful item management and a limited stash.
