Let me start off by saying this. To the people who aren't recommending this game soley on the fact it has microtransactions: YOU ARE WHAT IS HURTING THE GAMING INDUSTRY, NOT MICROTRANSACTIONS

I do not support microtransations myself, as long as they don't lock content out of the game or provide an obvious advantage over other players in a player vs player game. The microtransactions in this game are a litteral joke. The team that worked on them should do microtransactions for all games that have them. If they did, there would be no reason to worry about them. There is nothing in these boxes that warrents anyone feeling obligated to give money up just to get them. For those that are saying they are constantly reminded of the store page, i have no idea what you are talking about. I am 12 Hours in and i always forget it's even there. In fact, i would go as far to say that you would be WASTING money if you think these would provide a better experience than those who don't purchase them. Just about all items contained in these crates can be earned frequently by playing the game regularly. If you have to spend money to not play the game, why are you even playing it? Not buying a game because it has microtransactions is not "solving" the problem. It hurts the developers who make an enjoyable game. Buying games you like helps developers make more and more of them. So the next time you decide to spend $5 on a text to speech message that will probably not be heard or just ignored by your favorite streamer who you probably got the ridiculous opinion of the games microtransactions, maybe save it and invest in a game that is enjoyable and you can show your appreciation to the developers.

With that out of the way, lets talk about the game...

The new changes to the nemesis system are very nice. All the added weakness/strengths, enemy types, designs fit well into the gameplay. The option to take a captain along with you as a bodyguard makes me constantly decide weither or not to kill or convert each new captain i run into. With the addition of seiges, collecting and strengthening your army is a hell of a lot of fun.

I find the modified combat system to be a little lack luster. Something about it doesn't capture the same feel as the first game did. You have a much bigger arsenal of moves in this game compared to the first that arent all locked behind story missions (which was super annoying). I just find it much harder to make use of these often compared to the first game. There are much more enemy types in the game which is very nice, but a lot of them are ones that you cant counter. If you are defending against a group of enemies that have a large mix between ranged, counterable and dodgeable it becomes chaos trying to match all the button prompts thrown at you. It seems a lot of the little annoyances with the combat can be overcome by proper gear builds so gearing plays a good role in this game.

Speaking of gear, i find the gear system to be fun. Each piece of gear comes with a challenge you must accomplish to unlock the full potential of that item. Most of these include different ways of killing captains which add a little extra fun when taking them down. The inclusion of sets also makes hunting down and leveling these up a nice way to give the player more reasons to go out and hunt captains.

The AI for the grunt Orcs seem strange. They have very little awareness when it comes to spotting the player or pursuing them. And with all of the extra mobility options that the player has, it's very easy to avoid combat all together if you really need to. And since grunt orcs dont even give exp, it kinda just makes the game feel like you are running from one captain/quest to the other.

People have been complaining about performance issues. Well sucks for them i guess. I have a somewhat average PC and i can run everything on medium fine at 60 fps. Thats more of a case by case problem if you ask me.

One of my biggest complaints would have to be some of the side missions/collectables. Your map tends to get very cluttered with these annoying little side quests that really don't offer much to the gameplay. I find myself only going after them just so they will stop showing up on the map.

The story is also not much to talk about. It's nothing insulting but is just basically there to give you an excuse to build an army and kill Orcs.

If you're new to this series than i highly recommend this game at the full $60 price. If you are a fan of the first one, i would maybe get it on sale for $40. It feels like a large expansion to the first game.
