This is the "New Coke" syndrome (The analogy just occurred to me so I'm not sure if it holds up, lol). When a company develops a new product, not because someone was inspired with a genuinely good idea and had a desire to push the envelope, but because someone looked at some numbers on a piece of paper and decided that he might be able to coax some more dollars his way if he farted out a product consisting of A, B, and C.
By all means, harbor some hope if you want, but I wouldn't expect the tiniest iota of excellence from a studio who delivered a concept like this. Their motivations are clear.
