Game has its ups and downs but it's going to get an F from me for one shotting my hero. Think the mission was a spreading magenta? Spend all this time slowly moving all these units up the street, then this boss guy does a power up (rage I think) and then one shots my hero. I'm just not into it. Could I go waste a bunch of time slowly moving units up the streets and use a smoke grenade or something next time? maybe there's something I could do? but no, it's just stupid and annoying to get one shot on the first fight of a long boring level.

You need to respect the player's time. You don't make them run around for 15 minutes and then one shot them. Awful.

The game has some ups and downs, but the main issue is, the missions are on rails and there seems to be very little variety, you get heroes way too slowly, and you get power ups and stuff way too slowly. I put quite a bit of time into the game and still have a measely 2 characters on my team.

I do think there's a fair amount to like about the game, but I find the balance is very wacky and wonky. Sometimes hero units join your team and they are 10 times stronger than your character and have piles of HP and resistance. And then sometimes you're stuck with your character, who you have no choices over. You have nothing to do for a build, you have no characters to choose from, and then it one shots you.

I think this game is more like a thumbs sideways, there are good parts, I think the game might have potential later, but the experience is so linear it's really a turn off. I'm really super irritated about being one shot and having to start over slowly moving my units up the streets again. Not worth my time.

Really good crafting/survival game, kind of minecraftian graphics with a half-life feel to it. Having a lot of fun with it. Enemies respawn a bit too fast and fortitude/acccuracy are a pain to level, but otherwise pretty solid.

This game makes me want to play path of exile but this game is not path of exile. I only played to the first boss. It's not fun. Yes, let me spam dodges while I plink away at a bullet sponge for the very first "major" fight of the game. I'm not a fan of having to spam dodges in the first place, that's not why I play path of exile. I want to kill stuff and grind loot, not spam dodges and plink away at bosses, and get chunked for massive damage even by yard trash mobs. Hardest of hard passes.

Story is very linear but extremely well written. Kind of a short game too but worth playing.

Going to update my review slightly after more time. This game is a massive exercise in frustration. The learning curve is truly off the hook. I have spent more time reading and watching videos than playing the game. Honestly, if it wasn't for being able to talk to a friend who has already played the game, I wouldn't understand half of what I do now. The game does not make a lot of logical sense, the UI is very frustrating to work through. There is a LOT of trial and error.

The startup process is very boring and somewhat frustrating because you have to do a lot of boring missions to get seed capital going. What you need to do is save up for another ship and buy mining ships, I've been using medium miners, but small probably work okay too. Find sectors that have a resource and a station that buys it, then set the mining ship to local automine. They will mine and sell it to the station. Keep earning money and just keep buying more and more miners. Get gas miners too and just keep building. You'll get to the point the money really starts rolling in and you can do some trading ships too.

There's a lot of issue with the mission rankings. They may say easy or medium but god knows. If you're new you want to do the terran story mission, but there's some parts it poorly explains, like how to target specific ship parts. You'll need to be on your google game. Reddit has a lot of good sources of people asking these questions and getting answers. In general my advice is to stay fairly clear of any missions the game offers you because in many cases the difficulty is NOT correct. Go buy mining ships and automine until you have money to upgrade and buy more stuff.

The game is horribly new player unfriendly. You need to be very stubborn to put up with the amount of grief it puts you through to learn the game and get on your feet. It's very grindy. And I need to emphasize again the learning curve. This game makes no sense. It's just trial and error. It assumes you know way more than you really know. I'm shocked they haven't worked on the new player experience. If you're insane and tough minded you might find this game a truly deep gem, but be warned it's a hell of a journey. I find myself thinking about playing a lot, but just not doing it because it's kind of more work than fun sometimes.

The game on release was an objectively way better game. They have nerfed literally everything to the point they've sucked all the fun out of the game. They've nerfed the guns, the ammo, the amount of stamina you have running, and there's WAY TOO MANY ENEMIES.

Roll the game back and fire who took what released as a masterpiece of fun and turned it into a turd. Stop the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nerfs. Masterclass in bag fumbling.

This is an interesting game but VERY raw. I love where the developer's head is at, but it feels like a game still needs testing and development. The game starts you by water and then adds a lot of places for you to fall into water and not be able to get out, so as a new player you're guaranteed to drown a couple times before you learn that swimming is not an option. It doesn't autosave when you start the game and then drowns you which doesn't feel good.

You also can't adjust the difficulty of the game once you start. Which is bad and annoying. The fights are very hard on the default difficulty. The enemies almost never miss and they hit very hard for a new party. Combined with the fact you start naked, doesn't give a lot of build flexibility.

I don't think the stat balance is very good. Especially when the game doesn't do a good job of getting you starting equipment and the enemies accuracy levels. Strength is very overpowered compared to anything else, since you only get 1 bow to start and no other ranged weapons.

In general it has a cool old school feeling and has a very interesting class system, but the game start is VERY rough around the edges.

I wanted to like this game, it seemed kind of complex with space trading and exploration and stuff. But honestly it wasn't fun at all, it was needlessly complex, it seemed like it had a lot going on but none of it seemed to do much. Also, I was playing on new player difficulty and I failed literally every skill check for my crew, and I don't get that at all. It seems like it needs a lot of work, I just couldn't get into it at all. Definitely needs some kind of tutorial and more gradual difficulty curve.

This is one of the most frustrating games I've ever played in my entire life. Imagine Rimworld was 3d and with something like 10x the depth of things to do, then imagine it was just broken and unplayable. Imagine spending literally 3x the amount of time you spend playing doing research on why stuff isn't working. Imagine so many crippling bugs that there are debuggers and other tools basically ascribing to make the game playable. Imagine a developer who spends time adding new stuff, whilst leaving the game borderline uplayable.

The fanbase is passionate, so you have to be careful levying any criticisms... after all they've been playing for 20 years and they are used to being apologists. The game IS fun but the juice IS NOT worth the squeeze. The UI is abominable. Just the worst UI I have ever seen in my entire 47 years on this planet. It's maddening because you want to play, but the amount of time it takes to make any progress is just insane. I can't tell you how many saves I've had to roll back due to issues.

I'd wait and pray they work on fixing this game, the awful UI and at least some number of the bugs before you buy this game. It's just not worth it right now.
