The Chorus Unleashed

Chorus is a solid arcadey flight sim with liberating sense of control, surreal space opera visuals, fairly interesting main cast, and a standard narrative throughline.

The best part of this game is definitely the omni-directional movement system (and space magic) that addressed frustrations that players had when partaking in dogfighting sequence in flight sims, almost like a broken power fantasy fulfilment. It's great!

The combat scenarios set up through the main story or the random encounters (actually tho, the low level enemy encounters are frequent, RPG-like) are pretty standard for the genre I guess, but it's still satisfying to blow them enemies up with the spacecraft's hi-tech weaponry, or use space magic to teleport behind them and zap them with EMP force powers. And there's two more fun space magic abilities that I'm not gonna spoil here because they're great!

Yeah, you're playing as Nara, Starkiller's long lost sister. You'll be piloting around space stations, debris fields, giant bodies of rock and frozen waters, and unnatural non-human made structures, rallying everyone to defeat the space magic cult.

Pretty straightforward really, structure-wise. You got your main story ready to railroad you to skill testing set pieces, and if you stray away you'll find optional side quests, many are unique but not all memorable.

The human drama is okay. The conflict's dramatic, but they're not that interesting. The intrapersonal segments are decent. You're here to shoot down spaceships, man.

I like Nara as a character tho, she's neat. One can say her personality is of a typical female protagonist archetype, but for a deprogrammed cult member character, I think she did well enough.

The victory lap before the game ends tho, short as it was, was such a cathartic power trip, it could've been better but what we got is pretty good.
