I wish there was an option "Recommended for 40k Fans"

Short review: Do I recommend the game? Yes. But to people who are interested in Warhammer 40k. And not the expensive editions, just buy the regular one.

Long review: I loved the first Space Marine, actually, I beat it last week for the first time in anticipation for the sequel.
Space Marine 2 leaves you in awe of how amazing the environments look. The hordes are stunning and give you the "oh shi-" feeling when you realize that the hundreds of Tyranids running towards you aren't some backdrop but the actual enemies you'll have to fight.

Some gameplay mechanics are questionable. Executions now replenish armor instead of health unlike in the first game, this makes sense from a Co-Op point of view but in the campaign it really pulls you out of the moment and frustrates you. In fact, if you fully die, you just restart from the previous checkpoint with reset to your "downed" limit. Which means that if you got into a boss fight with just "down" left, it's better to just let the boss kill you to restart the fight with a reset "down" count.

I'm also not a fan of the limited weapon slots. In the previous game you had your pistol, your primary and two other slots for big guns. In this game, you have your pistol, your primary, and an occasional big gun which you can pick up but have to drop if you want to switch to the others. This left me wishing I had picked another gun as my primary before specific boss fights.

There were very few bugs, and I had encountered only 1 soft block during a mission, but luckily I had a checkpoint right before so I reloaded and didn't lose any progress. Checkpoints in this game are very generously provided.

The game is great for 40k fans, but some of the gameplay mechanics make it frustrating to play on the higher difficulties. I played on the "Veteran" difficulty which is the second highest and the intended one by the devs, and I do wonder if people were even more frustrated with the highest difficulty.

Tl;Dr: Space Marine 2 is a great game for 40k fans but will likely leave non-fans frustrated due to a handful of gameplay design choices that really piss you off. Only the standard edition is worth it, don't waste your money.
