This is the best Kamurocho has ever looked. The new Majima episode is also pretty decent, albeit a bit short.

blade prince academy has a very cool premise : RTS with customizable heroes and pause time to let you queue up actions. not unheard of in the strategy genre, but still cool when a game goes that way.

the unfortunate issue is that the game isn't very fun to *handle*, and the UI really does not help that. there are stylish bits and the game is very colorful, but it is kind of pain to play. UI is kinda here and there, it's not really great to navigate and a lot of things kind of go against other things. the upgrade system is a good example of this - picking a upgrade AND a hero.

it's both a strength that everyone can be customized but also a pain because in a lot of instances it doubles actions you have to make and feels unwieldy. a lot of actions could easily be more streamlined. all of this doubly so on controller.

my recommendation would be to try the demo, and if you like it then sure go for the game. i think that's the best way i can recommend anyone to approach this game.

good gameplay overall even a decade and a half later. decent amount of options in the guns, plasmids and tonics means you have a decent amount of option on hand and most are worth using or pursuing (hacking sucks though). on top of that, the game has some decent levels that have good pacing. and the atmosphere in Rapture is pretty good. but the story? incredibly funny story.

the biggest issue is that the game refuses at any point to shut up. you can feel it's from the era where games were streamlined into what they are now, but even on that point bioshock constantly trips in its own feet and just refuses to shut up. countless audio logs right before story dialogue you have no way to know will happen on a first play through. several audio logs next to each other. constant story chatter. game just doesn't know when to shut up and it is the funniest thing ever. does not help that the volume mixing kinda sucks, at least from my experience! and all of this is without getting into the themes of the game.

other than that, the remaster has a handful of issues, like bugs and crashes here and there. the original version is probably better to play than this. still a decent time overall!

it's borderlands 1. game's a slog in the middle, but the ambiance is unmatched by the sequels (and arguably 1's dlc). do not play brick or roland solo. game is better in co-op. there are still bugs present from all those years ago that are simply not fixed and are still annoying to game ruining to this day.

borderlands 2 is a better game so go play that instead, you probably own it already.

pull up map, walk 3 steps, get into a fight, win fight, pull up map, draw, walk 5 steps, get into a fight, win fight, draw map, go back to town because your resources are exhausted

if that sounds fun to you etrian odyssey is up your alley. you do nothing but fight and map the dungeon. the story is an afterthought. the game will still take you hours to complete, even on picnic mode (which is very easy baby mode the game plays itself in battle mode).

the later entries (most of which are not available on steam, unfortunately) are kinder and more fun to play, with better dungeon design. if you want to do a full series run then EO1HD is here for you. controls work well for a DS game port, although i do recommend a controller with a good d-pad, because you'll be using every button on your controller for this one.

the biggest boon here is sped up combat, which as i said you will do a lot of! unfortunately EO1 is not recommended by a lot of players and playing it will make it very clear why that is.

This game is outstanding on every single front and does not stretch itself thin with anything it goes for. Great combat, great platforming, outstanding visual, and a banger sountrack. Please play this game.

i will open this by saying that guerilla really was not that great of a game. interesting and fascinating destruction tech, but absolutely just a generic open world game that paints by the numbers for the rest of it.

so they followed that up with, as anyone would've done, a gears of war clone.

in all honesty? this game isn't that bad. i can see why it would be disappointing to most, but on the whole, it's a gears of war clone that uses the guerilla tech to have destructible environments. it's fine overall. enemy variety isn't the greatest, the nanoforge is underwhelming and only exists for story objectives and to compensate for the fact that you can destoy the path of progression, and the story is fairly boring.

i will say though i did enjoy the guns in this game! they were pretty alright.

if you want to play this game i do not think it's a terrible time, but i also don't think it's worth going out of your way to pick up and play. i only really played it because i picked up the THQ complete pack over a decade ago, otherwise this game would not have been on my radar.

it's not the worst game i've ever played but it wears thin fast. the game has you manage some resource (money and gems) to build a base/acquire special objectives, and eventually lead assaults on the big bad. sounds cool on paper, the problem is that you will be doing a lot of running back and forth for several hours. there's decision making, upgrades to be found, and ultimately bigger and more dangerous battles, but the loop does not carry the game for that many hours.

if you want a taste go play their earlier, free version of kingdom and see if the loop satisfies you. if it does then by all means go for this. if it doesn't, don't buy this!
