EDIT: I'LL HAVE TO REVISE THIS BECAUSE I GUESS SINCE I LAST PLAYED THE GAME 2 WEEKS AGO A BUNCH OF CONTENT WAS ADDED SO

EDIT 2: Continued my save file only for it to freeze on the inventory screen right as I was about to burn the body :)))
,
Very mixed feelings about this game. I really enjoyed the concept and the execution of the game, especially considering I at first glance thought this was a kitschy, cheaply made little horror game made for streamers to scream at (you know the type), but was pleasantly surprised at the thought and effort put into this.

However, I feel like it didn't live up to its potential.

First of all, the game is super short, even if you play it multiple times to reach all the different endings it still doesn't take that long and the $25 asking price feels a bit insane to me. I got it on sale for $15 and that felt more fair.

However I presume there will be more content added eventually since there achievements in the game you can't actually unlock yet. So that is nice. The game is made by a single dev afaik and so I'm sure it might take a while but I'm down to reassess the game when that happens.

My biggest issue is the lack of content and the scariness factor. The game does absolutely have its horrifiyng moments, and some of the scares are pretty unique and well thought out, but it took only 2 or so games to start getting repetitive scares, and there also were just not enough scares in the game in general. Atmosphere is top notch at first, but it really starts to wane when you realize after a two playthroughs (which a single play-through you can finish in like 30 minutes, though my first took probably took an hour and a half) that there are very few time when something will actually happen.
There were an infinite amount of times during my first games where I got in my head about the atmosphere and thought something scary could happen at any time or around any corner, but the scares quickly became easy to predict, and I feel there were SO MANY MISSED OPPORTUNITIES FOR TERRIFYING MOMENTS THAT JUST WERE NOT UTILIZED THE WAY THEY COULDVE BEEN. Makes me want to make a horror game (somehow lol) to implement the vision.

Idk, the game was good there just isnt enough of it to make it worth the price. Brilliant concept though, and fun enough if you get it on sale. Top notch atmosphere and the gameplay revolving around having to slowly and patiently embalm bodies (among other things I wont spoil) while hoping nothing will get you as you meticulously go about your business was great.

there just needs to be a little more.

This game? This ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game???
Phenomenal.

In Stars and Time (AKA the Make Siffrin Suffer Simulator) blew me away. Truly didnt think Id play a time loop mystery as amazing as THE Outer Wilds in my lifetime, but ♥♥♥♥ man, I guess Ive managed to now.

The basic gist of the plot is that you are the wizard/rogue in a group of adventurers at the end of their journey. Youve made it to the city where youre about to fight the big baddie who's freezing time and people throughout the country, except! Oh no! Suddenly youre stuck in a timeloop where only your player character, Siffrin, is aware of it. Sprinkle in complicated character emotions and a myserious past, and watch your character slowly lose their mind!

CHARACTERS
The game does an incredible job making you fall in love with the main cast, but does an even better job at putting you in the player character Siffrin's shoes and making you really feel for him.
Siffrin himself is not some cooker cutter protagonist that never speaks in-game (though he is pretty quiet sometimes). He's a pretty unique and complex individual, whose thoughts you hear directly as he comments on the world around him. The whole of ISAT is a bit of a character analysis of Siffrin honestly, and much of the game's plot comes directly from experiencing first-hand what he's going through and how he is coping with being trapped in a timeloop he can't escape.
Also I just never got tired of trying to see every possible change the characters had each loop. Endless entertainment.

I do want to point out that though this game can be super damn dark at times, the humor can sometimes be pretty juvenile and wont always be for everyone (think some of the characters would totally unironically say uwu or something like that, like tumblr style humor). I thought it was a little cringe at times (not often though), but the game completely sucked me in and I would die for any one of these characters regardless.

PLOT
Beyond the timeloop mechanic, there were a lot of things I managed to guess right, but the game continuously made me second guess myself and would throw in a couple of red herrings on occasion to spice things up yknow? Lots of twists and turns that were further improved by the subtle genius of the worldbuilding.

What I really appreciated about the plot however was the the characters and story already felt a bit lived in when the game started. Like, you don't start the game at the beginning of the adventure where all your characters are getting to know each other and you experience the whole thing alongside them. Instead you're starting the game at the end of their journey; the group already know and love each other, there's lots of things theyve experienced that you the player doesnt know about, and idk something about it just made the characters and their interactions feel a lot more real.
Not to mention how slow burn everything was! I really took my time (maybe a little too much time lol) playing this game because each loop had tiny little changes that you had to seek out to find. Needless to say, there is a lot of text to read. But the rate of the progression, the rate at which you gleaned information if you managed to look in the right place or ask the right question, the rate at which you learned about your team mates and the world and how to do things correctly (or differently) each loop, was done in such an immensely satisfying way!!!

WORLDBUILDING
For a game with such a small space to explore (I mean youre in a timeloop you just explore the same area over and over), it does an amazing job of fleshing out the world the game takes place in. Through interacting with characters and the environment you learn so much about the different cultures and traditions and religious practices throughout the world. The fun of a timeloop is figuring out how to gain more info each pass through!
There were different countries discussed in game, and some HUGE mysteries taking place in the background of our story that makes everything you experience in-game 1000x more interesting. The dev left a lot of unexplained mysteries up to the player's interpretations, and I think that's one of my favorite aspects of the game. The game is just so mysterious overall

GAMEPLAY
I cant imagine how much time it must have took to refine and tweak the gameplay to make it flow as well as it does. Its obvious a ton of thought went into how to make a game where you explore the same spaces over and over again interesting and fun without having a player lose steam/get frustrated/bored. But damn ISAT managed.

Sure the gameplay loop can get repetitive, but it's intentional and honestly an aspect that makes the game better imo. If the game is about you experiencing what Siffrin is experiencing while he's stuck in a timeloop, then it makes sense to drive the player mad during the loops as well. The game arms with you knowledge from previous cycles, along with memories and abilities in the later game that lets you breeze through everything, so while I get that this is a gripe some players have with this game, it feels like a necessary addition and isnt really that awful to work around

-----------------------------
I cant believe this game isnt more popular. It deserves the kind of love Undertale and Omori got.

Overall, the art is beautiful to look at, the plot and world have far more depth then youd expect at first, the characters are adorable and fully-realized, and Siffrin is a charming lead who will hurt and maybe break your heart at times. Everything about this game was beautiful and silly and poignant all at once.

Anyway, this game made me feel things. Play it if you would also happen to like to feel things.

Its weird because I feel like this is a game i wouldve DEVOURED back in the ps2/ps3 era of games, though to be fair I wouldve also been a kid at those times.
As it stands now, the graphics and vibes of this game are ~immaculate~ and super unique (like a strange mix of Psychonauts and Tim Burton and American McGee's Alice) but the core gameplay leaves a LOT to be desired.
I find the fights to be tedious and drag on and on and ON sometimes.
As a modern game id give it a 7/10, If you're someone more new to gaming, or someone younger looking for something fun and original to play, than I highly recommend trying this game.It has a lot of charm and a lot of action, along with a strange and surreal art style/world design that will really draw most into this world.
If you are more well versed in games with deeper gameplay mechanics, your expectations may be too high and this game is unlikely to satisfy that, though id still argue its worth at least 1 playthough.

Not for everyone, but a charming art style and unique game play system (though its weak and one of my least favorite aspects of this game) make me recommend it to anyone young or otherwise interested in giving something new a go! Theres a lot of humor and heart to make up for many of what Id personally consider downsides, and as an avid souls player, I play this game on easy just to get the fights over with and back to the main story line so the silliness can ensue.

a cute game that isnt for everyone.

Simple and sweet little game. Not overly hard if youre well versed in souls-likes or bullet-hells, but fun to play, with GORGEOUS visuals and esoteric environmental design.
I almost wish it were longer considering how little we know about the world despite how interesting it looks, but it taking only a few hours to play while still being a challenge (though maybe a little too easy) was a large part of the charm.

If you want a lovely and tough little game you can finish in just 1-2 sittings then I highly recommend it(ta)

Oh man. I did not like this game.

I literally don’t know how it has such positive reviews?? I haven’t played a game that I’ve disliked this much in years lmao.
I love horror games, I love puzzle games, I even went through a phase as a kid where I was obsessed with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the old Disney animation style. None of that saved this game.

And it started off pretty good with a very charming art style:

Chapters 1 and 2
have the right amount of creepy atmosphere, though I wouldn’t say these chapters were ever scary. You start off as this guy Henry who has been invited back to the old animation studio he used to work at, but ends up being trapped there and hunted down by the old animated characters the studio created.

The ’’story” is very slowly “revealed” through tape recordings left behind by previous workers. They reveal tiny snippets of the studio’s slow downfall and what may have led up to the studio’s current state of disrepair. Throughout chapter 1 and 2 there are a few jumps scares, but the game really focuses on trying to make you feel unsettled and does a decent job at it. Chapter 2 is where the game introduces these “ink enemies“ that rise up from splotches on the ground. In this chapter they weren’t really fun to deal with but were easy enough to manage.

Chapter 3
though is where the game just continuously went downhill. Chapter 3 is literally fetch quest after fetch quest after fetch quest. And all the while the game is just constantly throwing ink enemies after you.

The fetch quest was literally go to this floor, grab 5 of these items, come back. Go to the next floor, grab six of these items, come back. GO TO THIS FLOOR, TURN THESE VALVES, COME BACK. Over and over a good 6/7 times. There was no thought behind the actions, this game has the puzzle tag on Steam, and yet everything you do, every task handed to you, takes minimal thought. Just annoying backtracking and enemy whacking, because every corner you turned there were a couple ink enemies.

Now let me take a second to really explain just how terrible the fighting in this game was: Depending on the weapon you have you can deal more or less damage to these little monsters. The problem is that you swing very slowly, while the enemies can hit relatively faster than you. You have to be within like a foot of them to actually hit, but these enemies can easily hit you from five feet away (their hit boxes are like the size of a grape wtf). When you get hit, it takes a weirdly long time to heal from the damage, and again, these enemies swing kinda fast and the run mechanic in this game is SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥ AND USELESS that the only way to really fight is to just trade damage. And trading damage is fine until you have multiple enemies ganging up on you, or even worse multiple stronger enemy types ganging up on you. Hitting them and backing up isn’t feasible like it should be because they have long ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reach. I don’t consider trading damage, and then running around in circles for my health to replenish, just to trade damage again, fun.
Not to mention the way the game is really annoying about spawning these ink enemies. I might enter a room with ink spots on the floor and nothing will spawn. I’ll start interacting with a quest item and suddenly there are two behind me that have already hit me twice before I even registered they were there. Rinse and repeat.

The ink enemies throughout the ENTIRE GAME (yes even in chapter 2) felt completely unnecessary. Like they were added at the last second just to try and give the game a little more gameplay variety, or give the player something to do in between all the also unnecessary fetch questing. They were never scary, just really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.
And that doesn’t even include the other enemies in chapter 3.

Bendy himself will randomly pop up and hunt you down, and the only way to escape him is to hide in one of the outhouses (???) scattered throughout the map. While I think Bendy’s design is rather creepy and topnotch, the guy is easy to run from and therefore his actual fear factor is debatable. My real problem with Bendy lies in the fact that he is soo slooow. He pops up, you hide in an outhouse, and since he lost track of you he just verrry slowwwly shambles down the hall until he despawns. You can’t even try to sneak around him once he’s 20 feet in front of you with his back turned because the second you step out of the outhouse he instantly knows.

I have issues with other enemies, but I ran out of text space for my review lmao

Also chapter 1, 2, and 3’s level design all looked pretty much the exact same. The art style was charming at first but by this point it felt tedious. Everything was stylized wood and pipes with the most brown/orange lighting possible

Chapter 4
the game started to pick up a bit again, but at this point it was pretty obvious the devs had given up on the “horror“ aspect of the game. Which was uh, disappointing considering this game is pretty much marketed as a horror game. The level here was more unique in its design, and actually featured a boss that wasn’t awful (imo). That cant be said for the final of chapter 4 however! This dude sucked to fight, had a stupidly small hitbox (the size of a blueberry this time) that you had to be standing at the perfect angle to hit, and was almost impossible to dodge in his later phase. It was at this point that I really wanted to quit the game but I hate leaving things unfinished, so I persevered.

Chapter 5
was crazy because I almost thought I couldn’t dislike the game any more than I already did. This chapter starts adding a few new plot points (at this point the plot felt really shallow and unexplored), so that was nice. But then suddenly youre on a riverboat where it stops every 5 feet for you to scrape ink off its jets, while the game pretends its trying to be scary again. You reach land and !!! a boss fight, but then after that the game throws like 30 enemies at you in waves and please just kill me now. I wanted this game to be done so badly by this point I watched a youtube walkthrough just to get it over with as quickly as possible.

AND BY THE END OF THE GAME YOURE LEFT WITH FAR MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS. Like I get that they wanted to set this game up for a sequel, but they couldn’t even flesh out or make what theyd already started good to begin with.

------------------
And also, Im sorry, but what puzzles??? This game has the puzzle tag but held your hand through everything except maybe 1 or 2 tiny instances whrere you had to use 10% more brain power to get through an area. Puzzle is a very strong word for the tasks this game had you complete.
-----------------

TL;DR
This game felt like a hot mess. Interesting concept (though maybe too reminiscent of FNAF), and cool art style, but you get a little bit into the game and all the levels look and feel the same. Too many fetch quests and backtracking at times. Fighting mechanics that are some of the worst in any modern game Ive played, along with unnecessary enemies and bad boss design. The horror aspect is very minimal and all but disappears later in the game. A story that starts of mysterious and interesting but is revealed in a piss poor way, and by the end of the game hardly anything was answered.

I think overall the devs had a whole bunch of ideas for what they wanted included in this game, but then had no idea how to execute them well, and also refused to settle for focusing on just a few mechanics.

I feel like I should've been the target audience considering the game's description, but I think this is lowkey geared towards kids. If youre in middle school, or like easy and poorly designed games, then maybe this is for you.
It was definitely not for me.
