The Ace Combat series have more in common with the classic Afterburner arcade game than any flight simulator. But the actual gameplay is rather fun.

I wish I didn't have to jump through hoops to get my HOTAS working (if you don't have one of two specific HOTAS from Saitek you will have to... jump through hoops).

The story is awful in a way only japanese developers can achieve. There wasn't a single character in the game that I didn't at one time or another wish that I could kill.

Play the game as a 3d shoot 'em up and ignore the story, admire the fancy visuals, and you'll have a blast (pun intended).

First a confession, I hate sniping in games. But for once it feels not only OK but even quite enjoyable to kill nazis at long range rather than close up and personal. Also, I haven't tried the multiplayer .
Maybe it's because the game doesn't push you to only score headshots, but hitting hearts, livers, kidneys and ding-dongs are also encouraged.
The story is a bit bland and the voice acting is cheesy. But neither ruins the game as such.

All in all, good fun for a price you won't have to sell a kidney to afford. Recommended.

A real little gem. This game often top the "Games that Should have Been a Hit But Wasn't" lists, together with Grim Fandango and Beyond Good & Evil.

If you already have Audiosurf and is looking for more of the same, sort of, this is a good choice. If on the other hand you don't have Audiosurf, get that first.
Not that the two games really have anything in common except both using music to create the levels you play on.

Great and innovative game. Extremely challenging if you try to complete it without using any weapons. Not for those with anger management issues.

Troika's last, unfinished, opus. A great game with very different gamplay depending on what clan you choose to play as.
Don't forget to install the unofficial patch.
