Elden Ring is an open-world Souls-game, and includes many of the elements that you would expect from that short description such as: character creation, exploration, crafting, spelunking, death, looting, epic boss fights, death, horse riding, wandering groups of enemies, a vague but intriguing storyline, dragons, death, magic, and finally, death.

I've seen others mention performance issues. I can't say that I've had any during gameplay, however I am currently unable to run the game in 1080p with my monitor set to native 4K resolution. Running the monitor at 1080p is a workaround for this issue. I have a GTX 1060 6GB, and clearly there is a widespread issue around PC performance.

I would definitely recommend this game to any fans of the Souls series (Soulsborne? Shadowsoulsbournering? That's a mouthful.), and to others who enjoy open world games and don't mind the series' motto: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again." As with any Souls-like the reward is the satisfaction of beating a difficult enemy, however this can feel like you're banging your head against a wall at times. Luckily, in Elden Ring, the world is so vast and open that you can avoid many encounters simply by going around them and if you're stuck on a particularly difficult encounter there's almost definitely somewhere else you can explore. However, it may be wise to first wait until the reviews are more positive with regards to PC performance. As I said, I haven't noticed any but YMMV.
