Early Access Review
This a a great game if you like claw machine mechanics in general. The runs can be quite different each time depending on the items you are afforded though a variety of different mini-games. It's very easy to get greedy in the mini games and set yourself up for failing the next area due to the damage you took from some of them. Also, some of the items have a downside so you have to be careful when selecting them during your run.

If you love crane/claw machines you owe it to yourself to get this. It can be equal parts frustrating and rewarding - just like the real thing.

Completed a playthrough finishing the main game, and the DLC - Annihilation Instinct.
Did I enjoy it... somewhat, yes.

Let me explain:

As others have stated - the sheer number of puzzles thrown at you really hampers the pacing a good bit. Having to backtrack to find a combination solution for the button locks can be frustrating as well - thankfully, they were rarer.

The flower cameras and flying repair drones can become quite a pain, and the upgrade system could have been done a bit better instead of turning it into a scavenger hunt ala side-quest. The enemies are bullet sponges at times on the higher difficulty setting and some of the boss fights just inundate you with additional enemies to ramp up the challenge. Keep a melee weapon in your inventory - you'll need it when you run dry on ammo.

I enjoyed the story, and redirection, but it surely wasn't the game experience I had originally thought I was in for.
Nora, the horny fridge, was an interesting bit of NSFW audio that was a good bit of fun when you bumped into her.

Again though, I'd only recommend this game if you don't mind puzzles breaking up the flow of your FPS.

Despite my time-playing here on Steam, I've been playing GW2 for years on and off.

If you like PvE content, it has oodles of it. And - If you like to solo, you never have to group unless you really want to.
If you like scaling 5-man group PvE content - head into Fractals and you'll be set. (or you could dip into Strike Missions)
If you like large open-world events, most maps have Meta events you can dive into.
If you like seasonal content, they have online festivals with unique themes throughout the year.

... And the Mastery system provides further account-wide PvE progression once you hit the level cap.

If you like single or small group Structured PvP - it's there - and OPT-IN.
If you like large scale or roaming PVP fights on a large map World vs World (WvW) has you covered.

Quests and Crafting? Gobs of it...
Skins and "Fashion Wars" - oh so so much of it....
... And the best mount system in any game thus far - IMHO.

You only buy ($) the things you want in addition to the base game - and there is no monthly fee. If you want to earn gold in game and trade it for gems to buy those in-game store items, you can do that too and avoid using any real-world cash.

Update: The addition of more usable weapons per class continues to enhance game play for all the players regardless of class... and they've made it easier to obtain a flying mount in the SOTO expansion pack. Huge quality of life improvements continue rolling out - like the PvE Legendary Armor anyone can obtain.

They updated the daily, weekly, and special event system to reward you with a currency you can use for mount and armor skins, gold, crafting materials, utility items, and account enhancement items.

Update #2: With the Janthir Wilds expansion, they have refined the Warclaw mount and taken it from a WvW necessity and meaningfully made it a PvE open-world mount as well -- with reductions to falling damage, midair jumps, combat dashing, spear skill upgrades, and endurance regen enhancement (for all mounts). They've brought the spear out of underwater only use and made it a main weapon with a new legendary crafting option, and provided a new homestead hub where you can park your characters for a resting bonus, manage personal harvesting nodes, etc. Oh yeah... and more living world story, more zones, more meta events, another convergence event, etc.

Control is a pretty great game. My only real issues with it are the navigation system between areas being somewhat disruptive to the overall game play. It's fun to unlock new abilities and stretch your reach into new areas you previously couldn't access. Quite decent story line as well. Recommended.

"The vendetta missions allowed players to get revenge on behalf of their Steam friends, with orcs who had slain someone on your friends list showing up in your game so they could be hunted for an achievement called Repaid in Blood."

I really enjoyed the game and all the lore scattered around added a great deal of depth to the story line. Well worth giving it your time.

The game is fun, when you can find an online match, and everything works.

The reliance on the UPlay client is a bit of a bummer, but I can overlook that. What I can't overlook is how you take a fundamentally great game and ruin it with horrid "matchmaking."

By "matchmaking" I mean, you can't browse online games and choose one with the ruleset you want to play - or the DLC you want to play, or region, or preferred language, etc. Oh no... none of that.

And when you do try to jump into a -random- game of classic or 2v2... if for some reason the connection fails, and you must try again - I highly suspect that it tries to put you into the very same game over and over. You can endure a long series of failed connection attempts trying to get into a game. It's very frustrating - to say the least.

So now let's say you give up on that and want to host a game of your own - so you can set the rules and DLC being used. Well, let me share with you the following support info:
"Port forward TCP ports: 13000, 13005, 13200, 14000, 14001, 14008 to the PC playing the game."

Yep, old school port forwarding is required to make it work. So, if you have multiple computers behind your router/firewall where different members of your household would like to host a game of UNO ... well, enjoy changing those forwards.

Honestly, I'm hugely disappointed that as fun as the game is - this one factor overshadows the whole experience.

Yes, the game does fill empty seats in online games with bots and you'll see people pop in and out of games sometimes, but it keeps the game moving along and doesn't just dump you out of a game because a player disconnected - so I'm ok with that aspect of things.

As it stands - I just can't recommend this game without huge reservations.... and it's a shame because it's quite a polished experience otherwise.
