I think Forever Skies made me realize something deep about my appreciation for videogames.

My Forever Skies run at a 50 to 10 FPS at times on Epic Graphics, but you know what? If I see a branch clip through environment, does Epic Graphics really matter? And so, subsequently, I've come to terms with the fact that no game will ever look perfect and so there's no point in running games at Epic Graphics for the glistening peak of game design when Low looks very good and runs like water.

It might seem like a backhanded compliment, but I played this game at 10-30 FPS with my mates and it was still enjoyable to the point where I didn't mind playing games at that lag, which is actually insane, by the way.
So if you play this game and you think: "Man, I can't put out 5 months of rent for a new graphics card so I can run this game smoothly at Epic." just... lower the graphics down to Low with Shadows set to Medium.

I just realized that we've hit a ceiling in game development where games can be fun, look good but if it doesn't look "perfect" it doesn't need to look "perfectly good", this game looks good on Low, it plays well on Low - and if you're fine with joining me in this Cope Nirvana, you can also just enjoy a good game with some pals without bankrupting yourself.

So I recommend this game if you run the settings on Low (Shadows to Medium), if you run higher than Medium on the overall settings it might lag, and even at a solid 10 FPS I still thought it was fun. My review is so incredibly specific that I don't think it'll apply to a lot of people.

TL;DR: Play the game on Low Graphics (Shadows to Medium) and you'll have a good time, the game is good, it's just not running very well at higher settings, even on my friend's juiced up computer.

2266 the game starts desyncing like damn.

We tried everything, two people on the near fastest internet speed available, one of us had all the DLCs, we uninstalled the mods, we played on Slowest, we stopped doing things when the game was paused and we avoided tabbing out of the game - in the end nothing helped, we never got further than 2280, the game is probably cool in Singleplayer for people who enjoy that, but as a Multiplayer game it's another Paradox game that bites the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, damn shame too - Age of Wonders 4 shares the same issues.

Would love if the games Paradox sold would start working again, the excuse that there's +400 dollars worth of DLCs is usually "because they keep updating the game" but of what I can see from a quick search to find solutions to my desync problems, these problems have been going on for +5 years, so... what's up?

This game looks, sounds and plays amazingly. It took a few minutes to get a feel for the controls, but once it clicks it just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ works. I had a great time and I'll honestly replay the game just to see if I can stealth the maps. very much worth the price!

I have Game Mastered a lot of Dark Heresy and a little bit of Rogue Trader, and I can tell you that this is a near-perfect videogame adaptation of the rules without getting stuck on things the tabletop-RPGs usually got stuck on.
If you've wanted a Rogue Trader experience without having to read 5 books from a publisher that can't sell them anymore or can't find a group - this is your in. And even if you're not in that predicament, I'd still recommend the game.

This game is rough around the edges, but if you sit down and learn how it works, you'll be rewarded with a fever dream... experience.
There's a story in the game, but just like the previous game, the story you make yourself is what'll make it fun.

My first character, a Succubus, tried to seduce a group of people into serving as a standing army, but alas, the seduction was a bit too efficient and she got raped to death 44 times in 2 weeks, after which I decided to reroll.

My second character is a Lich Paladin that became a Thief Guild Elite - by stealing from the Thieves Guild. Is she sneaky? No, she's just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ abnormally fast that people can't hit her to interrupt the pickpocketing. She doesn't attack hard, but she always decapitates - so as long as the enemy can't live without a head she'll slice that off almost instantly.
She's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up that LIFE ITSELF wants her dead - and thus animals of all walks, Dogs, Cats, Horses, Aliens, Beggars, Elders and even Children will attack her on sight, with the plus-side that she can kill them in self-defense without getting arrested. It is therefore my strategy to stand in the middle of town and kill most people inhabiting it to train my Scythe skill without ever risking my life. Good game.

This game is great. If you're thinking "♥♥♥♥, I have a friend over and we don't have anything to do." this game is it, it's perfect. It's cheap. It's got Splitscreen Couch Coop. This is it.

But. I have some things I need to put out there:

1. If you play this game, I SEVERELY RECOMMEND that you go into the settings the first thing you do and reduce the "Muzzle Flare" setting down to 1 or 2.
Why? Because it will melt your face. I'm not epileptic, but my eyes felt "sunburnt" after firing the weapon for 10 seconds. If you have an ISP monitor with HDR, this game will melt your face.

2. I recommend having the smoking giblets, FOV effects and everything on - part of the difficulty of the game I feel is the inability to know when the enemies are done attacking you. The FOV effect when enemies are surrounding you is - somehow - a boon, I don't know how the hell this game opened my eyes to this (it was probably the Muzzle Flare effect programming me, tbh) but the FOV effect greatly serves to allow you see the enemy coming out of the corner of your eyes, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy.

3. Always play on the Steam Servers, because I'm pretty sure the game mode changes if you play Local.

With that out of the way, let me list the things that this game has that you won't find anywhere else:

1. The maps are truly random, but in a good way, the unfair layouts serve as the difficulty most of the time.
If you look at a map and think: "How the hell is this map hard? There's sentry turrets everywhere!" Just to realize that once you're deep into the station, the power suddenly cuts and that's when it hits you... "There's only one Breaker box and it's in the beginning of the station." I thought I had the upper hand, but it's a "day and night" scenario, on the day - when you have power - the map is safe, when it's night, all those sentries are gone and it's you vs all those unfair Breaches you didn't think about earlier, because you were only thinking about the sentries.

2. LOCAL SPLITSCREEN
What in the actual hell, and it works too!? It's just flawless.

3. The UI is god awful, but in a PERFECT way. Like, why in the hell do I see my EXP tick up mid mission? There's no reason, but it is there to taunt me in case I feel like things are going a bit too well. It works to increase the weight of the mission: "Look, this is what you'll lose if you ♥♥♥♥ up." it's a stressor that I didn't expect would work so well on me. A mission that is seemingly "In and Out" becomes just a little bit more stressy when you can see how much you got to lose if the aliens get the better of you.

4. The scares are unfair, but that's good here - because this game isn't scary, on paper. Let me explain what I mean, this game uses Jump Scares.
Usually in horror games, the design is built around "Am I safe? Are their Aliens around? Am I in danger?" This game can't really do that, because you're not safe, there are aliens around and you are in danger - the only way it can get you into the "scary"-mode is to show you how fast things can go to hell, and one of the ways it utilizes this is by Smacking open the ceiling and swarming the room with aliens.
The horror comes not with the "If" but "When" and I actually love that here, the game isn't going to throw a Slenderman Scare on you, it's going to throw a squid on you and it'll steal your flashlight and eat your face. It's not going to "trick you" or "scare you" no, it's going to home in on your face and rip it off, it's a binary state of existence for these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

5. It's oozing with somekind of graphical theme I can't really put my finger on. It's Space Hulk. It's Aliens. It's the Federation Marines in the Metroid Games. It somehow reminds me of Space Station 13. It's graphics are some of the best I've seen and for all it's flaws I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love the feeling of this game.

And finally, to the Developers:
I want more. I'll give you more money. I need more. More Aliens. More Weapons. More map variation in terms of Graphics. More! It's a beautiful game, you've done a fantastic job and I can't believe you knocked it out of the park this well, but I want... MORE!

Rimworld is finally my kind of game. I consider this game a Great Game, with the Anomaly DLC.
It's an opinion thing.

This Review has been edited 4 times by now, I've reviewed this game more than any other game due to what I hate and love about this game, but I can finally say that besides the 130 countries that can't play this game, they've improved the game after having it up for 11 months.

I'm recommending this game now because I fired it up and noticed how not ♥♥♥♥ it was anymore, sure the 130 countries that can't play it anymore are still permanently locked out of it, the community spirit surrounding the game will never be as strong as it was during the first 3 months of release, but if you pick up a copy of Helldivers 2, you'll most likely have a good time.

I see a lot of potential here, it's very fun. But I need more. I starve for the end of mankind.
