The game used to be fine, the write ups are interesting, but recently and occasionally, some series of stable patches are breaking the linux platform. The community staff of PDX is a classic AAA censorship wiping messages and silencing you on any occasion they see suitable, even in violation of own guidelines.

Don't buy it on a linux platform, there are other ways to play this game without spending a penny,

Edit: here is the problem and that's the gamedev attitude as of right now https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/stellaris-bug-reports.941/ and i'd sincerely advice to not participate into that pale discussion full of lvl0, private accounts and certainly interest lobbying smurfs being them part of the actual community or not.

TLDR:
GAME CRASHING BUGS ARE NOT FIXED IN YEARS, MEMORY LEAKING GALORE IS CALLED "A KNOWN BUG", TENS, HUNDREDS GB OF RAM LEAKING WITH OOM REAPING WITH NO CRASH REPORTER SPAWN IS A KNOWN BUG, IT WORKS AS INTENDED, NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT, HERE - TAKE SOME DLCs, READ OUR DEV DIARIES AND RESPECT US OR GET BANNED AND FARM SOME JESTERS FROM THE MOST DECENT COMMUNITY

////

Come on, this is CK3 and it certainly could've been better and more balanced and whatnot.

Yet it is interesting to play at the very least depending on your mood (rpg sense for replayability) and can be paused, introducing you to a serious govt bisnis.
Kidnapping, executions, torturing, witchcrafting, crusading, breeding for glorious adeptus astartes and hell knows what else.

Even bugs on this game can be a refreshing relief, unlike into some AAA(A) games.

It may seem that it has some multiplayer which apparently requires to register and sell the soul to Paradox to randomly hop into it. These launchers, all that privacy policies and eula stuff, hope they'll learn one day.

Edit: a positive review turns to a negative one with an advice to refrain purchasing their products due to the fact that this DLC-piled bugfest's pdx Q&A and testing gone south completely, disregarding of your specs and bug reporting, they simply fail to fix bugs leading to crashes, freezes and math mistakes, their products will start smell soon for real if they'll keep the attitude and community management in an unchanged state

I didn't feel the campaign as for single player game, just out of scope for the review.

As soon as you will find your crew on multiplayer, it is a masterpiece. The earlier title existance phases were much better community wise, but even nowadays there are plenty of servers where you could have some old good fun. Try adding people to friends on steam, because the favorites tab on server browsing could've been implemented better.

The devs certainly did play their own game or otherwise the gameplay elements were tested which is very uncommon thing to do nowadays.

There are plenty of not obvious shenanigans that will make you an effective crew member or otherwise plain dangerous for the crew, which adds some spicy sauce tones.

Just purchase it and have it at your library.

The game is sill into early access factually, you may hit a dead end with the proton and workarounds on linux desktops, despite deck certified.

steam deck, linux, mac users should wait because they aim to release it for mac on sep 6th and looking at this pile of garbage packaging and bug reports i'd wait till next year maybe

Refund resulted into unrefunded DLC (purchased on same invoice) yet included a relatively significant % tax/commission to restore the funds to the steam account LOL GOT SCAMMED

But beware, i never made it to the main menu yet after reading on critical gameplay and quest bugs it is a relief.

If you ever played toy soldiers in the childhood - this is it.
Thanks, devs.

I feel like giving a positive review, but that would be a crime or at least an unfair move.

Tragic waste of potential probably caused by management of the project also, beside marketing. My condolences to fair devs that used to make it as great as it could become as a finished product, putting their very souls into it.

If you love good stories - buy it, you'll only get upset (probably in a good way) by the obviously cut side story lines content. Damn nice artwork as well.

--- 1.5
City is still dead, apparently the citizens are just sniffing out the budgets and thus are just GTA 3 era dummies. Gear has been converted to 2-slot, some added micro-management for gear mods (to make it harder to be cool in night city), cars seemingly became more entertaining to ride across lifeless world. We received several pretty much useless items: katana, couple of guns and copypasted cars. Dismissed.

--- 1.6.1
Still bugged and i'm not even talking of dead city with rubber men, women and enforcement. Just fell through the elevator textures at "Don't fear the reaper" in attempt to take an elevator to the mikoshi. It would be funny, if wasn't so sad.

--- 1.62
Raytracing for that madness and a lot of small "fixes" - a still bugged game turns to the bad benchmarking tool rapidly, the updates on steam receive very strange supportive comments sometimes.

--- A pre 2.0 moral dissonance:
Finally, an upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC will hopefully fix it though will never know nor willing to.

The question was asked at General Discussions section of Cyberpunk 2077 and in regards to the following topic https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1091500/discussions/0/3818543707188368591/ : "Do i get it right, that the correct answer marked for the <topic> is that CDPR bans people of russia and belarus in order to promote the non-discriminating values?"

The answer is ban, bet they raised their right hand above the shoulder afterwards and made a sound.

* Update: 2 days later they got ashamed and frightened and hid the contents of the topic URL keeping notfying me on the fact that i'm banned, imagine 4 notifications on lifetime ban, how ones must be triggered. What a miserable mod staff, what a poor conscience limited decisions this publisher takes, ignore and never buy their products, this is not the same CDPR i recall for the witcher 3, they don't deserve your repect and money, get their games by other means if willing to.

* Update 2: the topic contents have gone accessible again yet something may change

--- The 2.0 overhaul which could be promising depending on PL release contents

- PC players are locked into controller mode, testing and Q&A series continued the modern unwrapping drama named "production"
- Cars seemingly received some care, we can now shoot and "hack" vehicles but still require to open the doors manually for hijacking with an old spicy GTA I vibes
- Icon weapons nerfed: no modslots, mediocre stats
- Clothing incl. iconic is nerfed: no slots, +5 armor or smth would be your top stats without mods, waking up a lot of undressed samurais
- Level scaling introduced: any junkie in a dark alley with a couple of fellows may poke you with a knife to coma on "very hard" endgame, no more funny business in a dead city
- Melee revamped: now it is as good as useless
- Chrome (incl. new) was introduced with full implants overhaul, now you need heavy grinding and perks to get properly chromed, struggling under pressure of artificial implant capacity scale bug/feature

--- Phantom Liberty (gifted lol):
- Fine location and overall quest design (rather impacting bugs r present)
- Poorly tested, nobody in CDPR tried to play this game on "very hard" and certain characters' lines can not be beaten with a knife in a hand as proposed
- Pale introduction of the main storyline characters kills any interest, empathy and compassion, Netflix-evolved chewing gum
- The items and weapons are diesigned in a way, where you're supposed to switch to the newer gear, cheap and simply imbalanced with a malicious intent to drive the interest of auditory
- Some sidequests are better than the main story, yet the repetitive ones could be much better on general and receive more integration and scenario interweaving, the guys who write stories should be promoted for not implementing what they certainly are capable of, simply underutilized (hello there dear management and sells, some of you make it worse for everyone)
- Not a single female with a low social conscience choombas could spend their eddies on, your are going to unlock a "100% woke" achievement
- The above is substituted with silverhand's dialogs and behavior, the woke staff team that restricts all the fun must be fired
- Cyberware is broken atm through capacity means and is underwhelming, pre-2.0 certainly aimed to that sweet spot wow effect yet sadly never managed to implement it properly, this time they didn't even aim anything at all

It has Ushanka, Pizdets and soviet cyborg vibes, crossing fingers for some of the staff members of CDPR, they ever were great because of you guys, thanks.

Worth to buy if the people who embargoed the people of russia and belarus for rather pale shameful political reasons would be fired, because playing games is better than shooting, guess who encourages and promotes the misery lol

This is a linear repetitive, grinding and short rpg with level-locked enemies that may oneshot you in case you would decide to run around on your own. Irritating quest and travel logic and some fairy tale aliens drinking into bars with not so interesting dialogs.

Replayability is zero.

But the world design concept and approach to camera/map/view is satisfying and reminds of old times. As if it should be like that for any modern day rpg instead of 0 scenario efforts and RTX the f out all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Hope it will get better with time.
