I would say color me surprised had I not already known that "Wow, another space adventure that leads to the darkest and most desolate paths and dead ends". This is a textbook: "Maybe we should be content with what we have here, perhaps some questions are better not asked, and some planets are better not visited" but man is ambitious, for better or worse.

Surprisingly competent plot, storytelling, and world-building, in big part, if not wholly, due to the fact that it's based on a novel which I plan to read now. In this kind of game, the story either holds up and I want to keep playing, or I'm out in the first hour. If you give the Invincible a chance, you will find a most alluring tale where simple things and minor decisions, people's lives, and the fate of the world and humanity as a whole are in the hands of someone who isn't even supposed to be here. Ironic, but that's how life is sometimes.

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Well, where does one start when telling a story? Well, from the start, I suppose. And the start here is but a facade. A thin, purple veil covers something that is only known to you, the player. That covered thing is your experience, your choices in this game, and their outcomes, your character, your faith, your beliefs, and you as a human. Decisions? Little they might be, or life-changing. Choose you must, and reaping the results you will.

The greatest thing about Pentiment is how real it feels, the writing and atmosphere are astronomically good yet grounded, and are only topped off by the characters and your journey as a whole. Your journey, Andreas Maler.

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

In this game, in this town, near the white mountains, there is a sense of community... of belonging. A sense of familyhood, of friendship, of brotherhood, and sisterhood that I dare say I had never experienced in a game before or even in real life. To see how those people lived back then, how they bonded together. How their lives progressed, how your passing journey of their land had impacted them in ways no one can foresee or predict... and isn't that... life? Isn't that what makes it so pure and true, how it's out of our control, try as we might, what will happen will happen.

A grand adventure, but without arms, without slaying of dragons or rescuing a princess. A grand adventure is just living life and trying to survive winter's floods till spring comes, and surviving spring's hunger and prospect of renewals, and surviving summer's orange sun that rises very high, and surviving autumn's grey and damp air till once again the cycle begins. In so many ways, Pentiment is about this cycle, the cycle of life. Fret not, we do what we can, but... but life goes on.

Simple life events and the lives of simple people, really, but what's astonishing and oh, so inspiring, is how the story of Pentiment so well weaves them into everything else to create a masterpiece of storytelling and character development.

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Perhaps Pentiment is also here to shed light on a period of time, what people believed, what they read, what they ate, how they lived, and how simpler times were. I cannot stop thinking about the warm atmosphere that this fictional work creates. The smell of fresh Rye bread that must have filled the common towns coming from the bakery at sunrise, how women came together to gossip, and spin wool. How men plowed, farmed, and harvested, under burning sun or soaking rain. To see their religious traditions, and to hear their elders' rustic tales, to look at their youngens' toys and pets, all living together in a type of world that seems impossible to believe now with our iron and atom, though it existed just a couple of centuries ago

It feels so different now, the world is so disconnected despite all the advancements we, by His grace, have achieved and pioneered. All the advancements in traveling and communication, yet we are so far away from each other. Luckily, we can truly experience how the people of Tassing weren't like us in that regard, how they came together, to break bread and tale, share joy and misery, and how they verily, truthfully, and certainly said:

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I have waited years for this game... all this hype and anticipation for a broken PC port...

This game is entirely and utterly unoptimized. Just as UE5 handed it to the developers, they handed it to us.

With a 9070xt on 1440p, I was barely able to get 60fps... the game doesn't look crazy good or anything even, how come my GPU is running at 100% and it can't output more than <60 a second? It ruins the whole experience.

On top of all that, they lowered the game's price by 10$ one day before release, screwing over everyone who pre-ordered and paid more. Also, they awarded the deluxe edition costumes to everyone, even standard-edition buyers, once again screwing over people who believed in them and gave them more money.

This kind of game and experience kills my faith in video games, my favorite hobby.

I have never imagined this game would be this emotionally deep and devastatingly so. Hugo and Amicia, I love you, I love you so much, I love you more than anything. You will forever be in my heart.

Oh, Lord... The Protector and her Patron Saint of Optimism, *our* Patron Saint of Optimism. In this life we live, in this... this hell we deserve. At every turn, when things start to look good for us and a glimpse of hope appears, we, humans, intervene once again, throwing all plans into turmoil, over and over. God be my witness, I don't know how Amicia went through all of this. How was she able to stand on her feet after all that? How was she able to keep going? Lord...

A Heroine through and through, a candle in the night. I wish I could one day be as brave as you, Protector, oh Damsel in Red, Amicia de Rune.

A pure soul, so innocent, unjustly cursed because... because this is life, and because this is the hell we deserve. I love you, Hugo, I love you so much.

But what do all of those words mean or account for anyway...? Life goes on, and what happened once will happen again because what can change the nature of man? Nothing.
We have to, as King Hugo always puts it, try our best and look for the best in people. Be as gentle as a flower, as delicate as a feather, with hearts of virtue and purity... just to find out that this world is filled with people who are not only not that but are against it altogether. Yet that matters not, for we must be, regardless of anything and anyone. This is the De Rune way, this is the humane way, and this is the way of Heroes.

I think the best thing about this game is... the gameplay. It's simple, has some puzzles, some sneaking, some actions, and those fixed camera angles... I have no idea when the last time I played a game like this one was. The design decision to make it like this made the game special and did a lot of lifting to improve it overall.

The main character is more than likable, she is brave and more than a little messed up in the head as well. The story is... surprisingly competent, even if very confusing. The more I played, the more I liked the game and was interested in the story, to dig deeper into whatever was going on in my head.

I think this is a game that is worth playing. The fixed camera angles, the story, characters, and setups are all well done. I quite enjoyed it and recommend it.

A butterfly that can't save everyone... let alone herself... From grief, sorrow, and suffering. A world, or two? Don't we all have our demons? A pinch of salt, who would have thought, salt is always the answer... For family and for friendship, a white-haired, dark-haired heroine.

Well, if someone decided to make a copycat of Symphony of the Night I would understand it, get hyped about their game and if it turns out good, I would buy it, after all... who wouldn't want to play a game like the Symphony? but, when someone decides they want to actually do a game like Simon's Quest in 2025? I played it and I still can't believe it.

Yes, I don't care what anyone says, the cryptic, broken, unfair, day-night switching game that we reminisce about is here, Simon's Quest reborn. Those reasons alone are enough to just end the review here but on top of that, they decided what if we make a game where in the first half you play as if you were Simon, and in the second half you play as if you were the handsome Vampire in the Prince of Darkness' castle?

If this game was called Super Castlevania 5. I would have believed it. It lacks the fluidity and all-directions aim of SC4, but it would have fooled me all the same. Yes, this game is that good, it is worthy of the title. The music, exploration, NPCs, abilities, levels, enemies, and bosses are all Castlevania-certified through and through.

What we have on our hands here is a rare type of game, a game that embraces the past and the legacy, steers from them not, their good and bad. I urge all Transylvania's residents, all of the Belmont family cemetery visitors, and all of Dracula's fanatics to give this game a shot and to support the people who made it, for they have made a very fun and authentic game.

Mateo, you are truly a brave knight. I do not doubt that your bloodline can be traced back to the Belmont family. From the very first sight, I felt it and knew it, you are a hero, a hero of the lands, of Gévaudan, and a hero of the Ross Cross Order.

If there was an animal I despise, not just dislike, no, hate, it would have to be rats. For a multitude of reasons and since childhood, I have hated and was disgusted by them, and if there was a genre of games that I don't want to play, it would have to be Stealth. So when I recommend a game that has so, so many rats, thousands upon thousands, and its main gameplay aspect is stealth then my action should speak volumes to the quality and impact this game left on the experience.

Never did I think I would play a realistic game with realistic rats that devour anyone they can reach, immediately gnawing them to the bone. On top of that, playing *that* game, I would tolerate the spawns of evil and even feel things beyond tolerance and disgust towards them.

If you are put off by either of those aspects, the vile nature of the plague or the stealth gameplay, I implore you to at least try the game. The bond between Amicia and Hugo, the characters you meet, their... personalities and actions, the world, and the settings, are all very much worth it. And beyond all, it is worth it because we are all heroes and no plague can beat the indomitable human spirit. The story is a thing to behold and akin to a dream that I wish for as many gamers to dream.

I enjoyed this game immensely. It's the kind of game that you miss playing as soon as you finish it and you instantly wish for more.

When playing Abathor I was constantly reminded of how much I love 2D platformers and sidescrollers.

The greatest thing about the game after the levels and gameplay, is probably the fact that you can choose between 4 different characters with different abilities, stats, and playstyles. All heroes are thrust into the events of the world for one reason or another. Gameplay wise? nothing too varied as it's, after all, a 2D game but they can spice the game up, that being said, I, of course, played most of my time using the blonde Valkyrie with a shield, how could I not?

The music is cool enough, and the overview map music is even cooler but don't expect anything revolutionary. I liked it overall.

They even made sure to include the infamous NES/SNES era type of enemy positioning, traps, and knockbacks on getting hit. Getting knocked in the air mid-jump to fall to your death never gets old! Though, in their defense, it's a scarce thing here, thankfully.

Overall, this is just a fun game... nothing much to it, and sometimes, that's more than enough. There's a story, and the characters have some life to them if you read the lore. Pretty cool game and I enjoyed all of it.

With all those positive reviews, I was certain the game must have done something right, so I thought I had to try it. It might have very well done something good, just not according to me.

The idea and presentation are nice, but games like these live and die by the gameplay. And, the gameplay here, is... quite repetitive or just mind-numbing? It's very nice at the start but soon enough you realize there's a lot of RNG and it's not about actually building a base, it's about overcoming mini challenges which are, also, random. And then everything is going to reset anyway. The idea is well integrated into the plot but I don't like it as gameplay.

There's so much micro-management needed to avoid wasting your precious resources, which is essentially the entire game, collecting and spending them effectively. However, it's all for naught if everything is random, including the type of buildings and updates you receive.

I respect the idea but it just didn't click for me.
