Despite the rocky start, I really love this game. I'm looking forward to CDPR continuing development.

Shockingly basic city builder game. Hopefully they'll add far more depth.

Early Access Review
Warning, this isn't just "Early Access". This is a essentally a demo. They put in a few levels for you to play and that's it.

I think this is abuse of the "Early Access" system. If you want people to try the game so they can decide if they want to buy the full game, you put out a FREE demo.

The game has promise. But who knows when they'll actually finish it.

Early Access Review
Imagine if the new Halo that came out was instead a top down resource management game.

This "Space Pirates and Zombies 2" is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT game, and frankly, it sucks. So not only is it a bad game, the developers had tossed out all the things that made Space Pirates and Zombies a good game.

At this point I would claim false advertising, but the Devs never promised anything.

Looking at all the glowing reviews, I'm wondering what people are smoking. So I'll list off the problems I'm having so far:

1) Fake 3D battles. They're patting themselves on the back for not having top down view anymore, but all combat is done on a 2D plane in a 3D space. Result, it's much harder to get an idea of the battle, and it's much easier to miss your opponent.

2) Pointless universe. The old game had exploration. This game is set up like a board game with sectors. You can easily explore the entire universe in your first few levels.

3) Pointless lore. Running around gathering "Lore", worthless pages of info about the universe that were rejected by Wikipedia. They give you nothing. They try to be funny, but are not.

4) The battles are terrible. It's extremely difficult to tell if someone is in range of your weapons. It's hard to tell if you're actually damaging them. No feedback for killing them either. At some point someone gets the last hit, and they slowly explode.

5) Piracy. I keep on getting jumped by random AIs demanding my cargo. Too powerful to fight off. You can get into battle and then flee at best.

6) Pointless ship design. What are these weapons I'm attaching to my ship? Are they good? I can't tell! I'll take them into combat and....I STILL CAN'T TELL. What the hell? Where did my very expensive weapon pod go? It was permanently destroyed? Who thought that was a good idea?!

7) Resource gathering. There's metal, fuel, and people. You gather these from points in space that generate infinite amounts of these things. No real skill.

8) My crew is annoying. And unattractive. And can't be replaced.

9) Side ships. Are they fighters? No. They're side ships! They can get blown up, and you can have extra, but those extras will never appear in battles for you.

10) Mining Missions. You versus several groups of miners, consisting of about 10 ships each. It's possible there's infinite waves. Who knows. Kills me every time for picking up small amounts of fuel.

11) Bases that control a sector, but not really. Mostly they just sit there as trading posts.

To sum, this is an incredibly weak indie game that's wearing the cloak of a far more enjoyable game.

I bought this game because I was promised a "Tower Defense" type game.

I was lied to.

Tower defense, at its core, it's multiple types of untouchable damage dealers (Towers), tossed along a path that invading monsters have to travel.

Well, are there untouchable damage dealers in this game? No. You have archers and you have catapults. Both crawl along the ground and are easily neutralized by the weakest of monsters. Seriously, one hit and done. The invaders can't miss, there is only one path for them, and everything else to take.

You can build a tower, and an archer may climb it. But invading monsters can, and will, just knock him out of it. Again, in one hit.

You can't route the monsters with buildings and walls, and you can only build walls. On predetermined spots.

So, you build during the day. You run and hire peasants, who limp slowly back to your town and pick up the first item they trip over. A hammer, a bow, or a sythe. Only one of these is a weapon.

Which brings me up to my next complaint, zero instructions. That can work if you feel a sense of reward for figuring things out. In this game, it just makes me angry. So I'm going to spoil it for you:
Hammers make workers. They build, repair, and operate the catapult.
Bows make archers. They kill incoming monsters during the night, and hunt during the day.
Sythes make farmers. They farm.

I just saved the world tens of thousands of hours in wasted gameplay.

At night, your people retreat behind your fortifications and wait it out. Sometimes the monsters spawn.

Now, here is the most frustrating part of the game. Mobs don't come at you in waves, like EVERY OTHER TOWER DEFENSE GAME OUT THERE. They all come at once. One crazy huge group. In the beginning it's just a handful. But after that? Expect 40 armored leaping mobs that plow through your sturdiest of walls in 3 seconds. Your 2 defending archers take about 4 seconds to reload. And they miss. A lot.

Yep, Your ONLY DEFENSE can't actually hit what it's aiming at. Probably because these death-turds come flying at them at mach speed. All of them can do that by the way.

Now add in flyers that grab the archer off of your tower stand, and you're completely screwed.

This isn't a game. This is a sonnet, written in code, titled "We hate you. And if you want to hear the music, you'll have to pay extra."
