The Long Dark is deceptive, at first you'll think it's about survival, that objective is secondary. Learning how to survive in game is a fun jaunt, but finding a reason to survive is the casual filter of this game. This game has so much content, it's one of the few games that I've played that draws me back to see more; despite the repetitious game-play loop. Introducing more challenges to yourself makes this game worth playing, you have to make a "story" for yourself, dramatic or not it requires some user assembly. Oh and mods help too.

If anything it's a walking simulator with a lot of pleasant and thrilling diversions, it's great to play if you're just trying to relax or have a little "project"

Story mode isn't worth your time though. It's very sloppy, Melodramatic, and ham fisted, if anything it gives more background detail for locations in survival mode. It's got that going for it and that's about it, from my experience so far at least.
