You know, it's probably about time I write about this. I played the ever-loving snot out of the first game, and this one is a fantastic build upon it, and I've been playing it for what feels like ages, too. I find the... metaphysical? story of the thing delightful, as well as the appreciation of actual firearms afforded by the technical detail and lack of automation in the weapons. A strong focus on mental health and firearms safety are great components, as well, especially in These Times.

I'm really trying to think of an actual complaint, but honestly, I can only think of minor rare bugs, and when RNG decides to screw you with the map, etc, but none of that ever gets more than a grumble of "challenge accepted" from me. Oh, and slightly ruining other games - I will forever be annoyed in other games when the character wastes time chambering a round when they didn't empty the fool thing!

I just don't think any other game has ever given me this particular combination of zen and tension that Receiver does. An utterly unique gameplay around a fascinating arrangement of thoughtfulness and panic, hopefulness and dystopia, violence and nonviolence. Devs, you have my gratitude forever, and the game has a permanent spot in my mind and my ultrafavorites shelf.

I don't leave very many reviews, and don't usually get quite this flowery or anything, but this game is worth it. For something appearing simple at a glance, this is surprisingly deep and well developed. If the core gameplay of manually operating sidearms appeals to you at all, then I hope the rest of this convinces you to join us and finally Awaken.
