Pre ordered the ultimate edition prior to the release. Have played through both pre release and the post release without day one patch. The disastrous state of the game reminds me of what Battlefield V was like back in 2018.

I’ll try my best not to repeat what other negative reviews have already mentioned and those info we already knew before the launch.

The graphics is a downgrade. It appears to be a simple copy and paste from BFV. No massive destruction, all we got are just a laughing rocket or tornado or whatnot. Unlike BF1 and BFV, which have dynamic changes of the waving flags based on the surrounding. In 2042 the flags just wave in the BF4 way, same direction all the time and never go resting.

Frostbite engine used to have a huge show-off of its graphics and Levolution mechanism comparing to its old rival. The animations, hit boxes plenty other thins are totally unpolished. Now IW engine has evolved with massive attention to detail and BF2042 still appears to be as if it was released 8 years ago.

Scoreboard and weapon customization UI. Whoever designed these must be genius and I guess they must have got their degrees from Facebook. The customization menu is so much “useful” by showing redundant unclickable selections. Hiding other players’ kills so that we could pretend no hackers in the game. What a wise choice.

Specialists. I know It’s something we already knew even before the announcement of the game. I still don’t understand why EA and DICE have to turn the game into some APEX or Overwatch kinda stuff. They tried to adapt the Call of Duty pattern but ended up being so much worse than it. The story is set in a near future world where everyone is fighting for survival. But at the end of a round, the characters just go so cringe like “haha I am not overconfident” or “I’m ready for round 2”. What on earth are you so excited for? You are in a war set in a resource hungry!

No global chat. Censorship. So that people are unable to be toxic towards the foe team. Well done DICE, and I believe you assumed people won’t be toxic towards their teammates either.

Glitches. The game literally has more bugs than Ubisoft products. The weapons and attachments are so grindy that people were using exploit to farm XP. And DICE is very happy to patch the exploit the other day during the pre release and leaves other quality bugs without being fixed.

Paying extra to to test the unfinished game just like what I did in 2018 when BFV launched. EA once again proved how idiotic I could be. I don’t know how many chances or how much time DICE have left but I know the good old memories of BF2, BF3 and BF1 won’t come back. And I wish DICE the best luck not to be defunct just like EA studios ended up being.
