Two of my favorite RPGs of all time, remastered and rolled up in one package. The graphics much improved but still maintains that classic 2D sprite look. The music is cleaner. Bugs (and some exploits) are fixed.

Most importantly the story and characters are all the same. It's been years since I've played this, so it's sort of like catching up with old friends. I've only gotten into 1 so far but this will be taking up a large portion of my gaming over the next few weeks.

Edit: Changing my score to do not recommend. After a little more playing I'm getting bored with it. Every game kinda feels the same even when you're pursuing different victory conditions. The starts kinda start to blend together. Like I feel like the starting resources are always the same and don't feel interesting. I miss Civ V where you'd actually trade resources and you'd kinda start heavy on one and had to work for the others. The map shape is absolutely BORING. All of these things are fixable, I'd wait for a few more patches to purchase if you haven't. There is still good bones here but it just gets lame after a few plays.

Generally speaking I've really enjoyed this new Civ. I wasn't really a big fan of 6, was always more of a Civ 5 guy. I think the bones of a really good game are here but it needs some works.

Pros:
Legacy Paths - I really like the idea here and generally it's pretty fun BUT, not all legacy paths are created equal. For example, Antiquity Age Economic is a lot of fun trying to get enough resources to hit a golden age. On the other hand, religion is TERRIBLE in this game and tying it to the Exploration Age cultural path sucks.

Goody huts: really like the choices at the beginning of the game to take things that I need most. Being able to get an advanced unit for example is great.

Towns - I like the idea of having towns that I don't have to micromanage so much though it's not always clear when the best time to upgrade a town would be.

The age system - I sort of enjoy this but it needs to be fleshed out a little better. I like the idea of getting different bonuses during these transitions but it can be a little jarring having to kind of figure out what is going on after the transition.

Cons:
Religion - I mentioned it above about it being tied to culture (which I hate, culture should be distinct) but it's just so annoying. You have to spam missionaries and pretty much chase the AI around overwriting each others religious influence. It's just so so so bad. This is my top complain. Wish it was more like Civ 5 where I could engage with it as it's own thing when I want to and it gives some bonuses. Not where I have to basically spend an entire age messing with it TRYING to get relics. Worst part of the game in my opinion.

War - the commanders I will say are a vast improvement BUT units really blend into the map. I have to go searching for units because the icons are so small. I can't tell what the hell is going on. And the AI declares just the dumbest wars.

AI - speaking of AI, it doesn't make a lot of sense with the decisions it makes. I'm sure that will improve.

The map - in the early eras it's lovely, by the late game the map is overly crowded and a mess. And there is no variety. Two roughly square shaped continents. Just gets boring after a few games.

Can't play tall - I miss when tall was an option, I hated 6 because you really couldn't play tall. You can SORT OF play tall by having lots of towns but you pretty much have to expand for every legacy path. Maybe some more tall focused civs will come along.

UI: it's been said by everyone, the UI isn't great but they've already made improvements.

Summary: I could probably discuss pros and cons in most systems right now. It is fun, I am enjoying it but there needs to be some significant overhauls for it to have replayability beyond a couple of weeks. I bought the founders edition so I really want these issues to be worked out if I'm going to keep coming back. I have faith that they'll sort out most of these issues.
