Dead by Daylight, itself, is a great game; sometimes even exceptional. It has its issues - like any multiplayer title - but overall, it is more than worth playing.

However, Behaviour Interactive are a company clearly more concerned with appearing politically correct than genuinely improving their game and the experience of those who play it - bar the vocal minority who complain over such matters as "offensive" content.

For example (this is what prompted my original review back in 2022) the developers decided to remove Leatherface's Claudette mask due to it supposedly acting as a tool for "racism", even going so far as to claim it is akin to blackface. Behaviour has a very clear political and social agenda which they make absolutely no effort to hide and it does not represent their playerbase.

Time, finances and resources put into their social pandering could be much better spent improving upon the variety of issues still present within the game.

Overall Rating:

Dead by Daylight: 88/100;
Behaviour Interactive: 13/100

We just need to start a petition where we scream our lungs out claiming that the removal of Claudette's leatherface mask is an attempt to suppress black representation in the game.

Easy win!

That was the most calm and chill racial discussion I've ever seen. Personally I think that the masks should've stayed and they should've switched Claudette's mask out with someone else instead of removing the feature entirely, but hey ho, what can you do, it's Behaviour, doesn't matter how loud you yell, they will never hear you... unless there's something in the game that offends you, maybe then, but only maybe.

Well, second only to you.

I just looked at your own comments here and on your profile and you might be the most retarded person I've seen on this platform

The developers additionally expressed the view that the mask could be considered blackface which is about as absurd as claiming a black streamer playing Meg is partaking in a racially motivated hate crime 'white face' (for lack of a better word). This view expressed by them, in my opinion, completely discredits their decision.

Indeed, we are entitled to have differing opinions, it's completely fine to disagree on matters such as this. I would say their is a very distinct difference between legitimate racism and trolling, namely in the intent behind it.

A legitimate racist holds those views and wishes to inflict pain on others by expressing them (generally). Whereas someone trolling is often not really thinking about the consequences and simply looking for a bit of fun, even, to some extent, at the expense of others.

Both may have similar effects on those who experience them however and given that I can see why trolling can also cause issues. This considered, my viewpoint does not change, other means to troll racially motivated or not will be found without the mask and its removal will likely do nothing except for upsetting players wishing to using it legitimately.

Agree to disagree then, I guess. Personally I don't think there's any difference between legit racism and trolling racism; they're both equally as bad imo. I respect the company for doing this and I think it's one of the few things they've done right recently. Besides, I'll take the 6k iri shards compensation over the masks any day.

Do I agree people should not be abused for their race? Yes. Do I think that the vast majority of people who do so are not legitimately racist and are instead trolling? Yes. Do I think removing the item does anything positive? No, in fact I think it feeds said trolls letting them know they have succeeded in their efforts. Are people bullied/picked on/victimised for many factors than race? Absolutely, he.ll I'm discriminated against for having a 'voice changer' due to my voice being extremely deep far more often than anyone would be for being part of a minority group, even amongst racists.

BHVR is an overly sensitive company with overly sensitive employees, this was not the correct response. I consider this decision to be utterly moronic.

Okay maybe not a significant portion, but still enough people for it to be recognised by BHVR. I get that it's not completely solving the problem as these racist players still exist but it at least takes away one of their tools and shows that this kind of behaviour isn't tolerated. Racism has no place in gaming nor anywhere, doesn't matter if this happened to 10 people or 1000. As a person of colour myself I know I would be offended were something like this to happen to me in a video game. Everyone plays games to have fun, no one should expect to be racially abused or discriminated against in any way.

It was not offending a significant portion of the community, it was offending a very vocal, whiny minority. The idea that 'racist assholes' were queueing specific as leatherface (as switching killer after queueing is impossible) to then dawn Claudette's leatherface mask if they are again a player they know to be black (I suppose by going on their profile, then their Twitch stream), is comically absurd.

I imagine this happened at best a handful of times, the number of racist players acting in this or similar ways (even including those obviously trolling) will be minuscule. Those getting genuinely upset over such behaviour need to thicken their skin, they are only feeding the trolls.
