Just avoid it. It's just a complete slog to really progress. I came from the original 2D Dead Frontier way back when it came out as an MMORPG in 2008 as a top-down looter shooter. The magic just kind of died overtime as Neil started running out of ideas. I really want to like it, but I just can't.

This game seems to get more and more unstable with every update. There's a disturbing amount of bugs within the menus. You'll randomly crash or even blue-screen for seemingly no reason at all. It doesn't matter if you're playing on servers in your general area, or with friends overseas, you'll always experience random freeze-frames and interaction lag, going from mild hiccups to severe combat stoppages that will often leave you dead just a kill before you're able to get your next recon drone. When it's running smoothly? I'm usually having a good time! But when it isn't, you feel it. You really feel it.

I can't recommend the game in this state. This could easily be the best Call of Duty produced, but it's half-baked. I could easily see this being an 8/10 or even a 8.5/10, but right now it's a hard 5/10.

I've completed STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl a few times since I purchased it back in- I want to say 2011, maybe 2012. I just completed it a fifth time, this time getting the canon ending again, except this time I did it on the hardest difficulty, which was a little challenging. While the graphics haven't aged well, the story is just as good as the first time I played it. I wasn't using any mods and somehow it only crashed on me once my entire playthrough.

I don't want to post any spoilers regardless of how old the game is, but I do recommend playing through this game at least once or twice. Easiest difficulty or the hardest, it doesn't matter to me, just give it a chance. I think you'll find yourself interested in the people you meet along the way, the factions, the mutants, and you may even find yourself getting immersed in the scenery that is the zone. You might even find yourself chuckling at the kind of jank that these semi-open world environments can create on a whim, too.

This is the game that got me into building computers as a kid. When I saw what kind of realistic shooters you could play on PC, I was immediately hooked. I scrambled together roughly six hundred dollars doing enough chores, landscaping and yard work to put calluses on my hands that I still have to this day. The people that I met, and the long time friends that I made along the way that I still keep in touch with almost every day even now, almost a decade later, can all be attributed to a realistic military shooter that we simply wanted to learn to play.

It might be a little grimy, a little rough around the edges, but this game has heart, along with friendly communities that are always willing to teach and help you every step of the way. Thank you, Bohemia Interactive.

I've put over fifteen hundred hours into this game and it still feels unfinished. Most of the survival aspects feel as if either it's life or death, or can be completely disregarded altogether with little to no consequence to your player character and there is no in-between. The PVP feels inherently broken, because most of the time it consists of sprinting and snap-shotting at people doing the same exact tactic. Building bases is pointless considering how easy it is to break into bases using either tools or exploits. The zombies are an annoyance at best.*

If you're looking for a true survival game, I recommend "The Long Dark" and if you've absolutely got to have zombies in your survival game, you'll have much more fun playing "7 Days to Die" honestly.

*I wanted to edit my review just to say that thanks to the modding community, you can find servers that have completely revamped, and in my opinion resolved the issues I brought up in this game. Those changes make the game entirely more enjoyable, giving it true survival elements and also making the combat more tactically inclined. Just do yourself a favor and avoid official servers.

Project Zomboid is an absolute gem of a survival game. Every survivor you play has their own story from the grueling start to the bloodied finish. There's no way out of this situation, and there's no cure, so you either have to make the best out of a terrible situation or you let that situation's bloodied hands pull you down and make you it's next meal. Every decision in this game has a consequence, from something as simple as choosing not to bandage up the smallest cut to something as complicated as having to get supplies three towns over just to make sure that your sanctuary has enough defenses just so that in the event of a horde seemingly coming out of nowhere, you'll have enough precious seconds to get out without succumbing to the undead. You may never be able to retake what was once yours, but sometimes even staying still can be an everlasting consequence. Keep moving, make sure your car has enough gasoline, keep your baseball bat in good repair and pay special attention to the sound of a shotgun blast, because if you don't, it won't be very long until you're no better than one of those shamblers that turned your neighbors into a bloodied corpse on the asphalt.

7 Days to Die is a fairly standard zombie survival crafting game, with a fairly non-standard progression system that makes your playtime feel rewarding. While it has a similar gameplay loop like any other zombie survival game, in my opinion most of the fun is progressing your character and going from a barely surviving greenhorn to an advanced survivalist with a certain set of skills. It also has a quest system, where you can do various jobs for the owner of various safe zones thrown around the map which not only rewards you with decent amounts of XP and currency, but it also allows you to choose a reward which can be improved upon with the use of perks. It also has a fairly intuitive building and crafting system and a decent amount of weapons, tools, and armor than can be used to increase your chances of survival.

Some things I feel as if they need to improve on is the infected AI, the variety of items, game optimization, map creation and vehicle usage. In it's current state, I can report that I didn't experience any bugs.

All in all, I believe that I would rate 7 Days to Die to be a 6.5/10 in it's current state. It's okay, it has a fun gameplay loop, and it's fun with friends. If the developers continue with the type of updates they are currently putting out, I could see this game being an easy 7.5/10.

Update as of 9/13/2021 - I reviewed this game a long time ago and I originally gave it a 6.5/10. I wanted to update this just to say that it appears that the developers had been actively taking consumer feedback, and while it has been a while since I have played this game, the last time I played it I got everything I wanted above. I believe that 7 Days to Die is an easy 8/10. It's just an all around fun game.
