As buggy and frustrating this game can be, it is truly the best in its genre.

At the time of this review you have the option to play 27 different survivors all with unique perks and 24 killers all with unique powers and perks.

If you are a fan of cosmetics you should be happy to hear that almost every single character in the game has a lot of skin options as well as charms for your belt on survivor and hooks on killers.

Now you could say, hey I kinda like how the game looks but that is a lot of DLC to buy to get every character unlocked and I hear you.
You are correct that there is a whole lot of DLC but there are choices you can make when buying the game.

If you are committed that this is a game for you, you have the option to buy different bundles that have a decent chunk of characters in them and the game as well as the bundles are very often on sale.

Now if you are not interested in spending a big chunk of money at once and just want the base game and maybe 1-2 DLC, that is also a very viable option.

Outside of licensed DLC like Silent Hill or Stranger Things, every non-licensed character/DLC can be unlocked in the game using the in-game currency called Iridescent Shards that you get by just leveling up your account when you play the game normally.

Now that you know about all of that you might think well that is pretty neat but what if I don’t like to play survivor or I don’t like to play killer so I don’t want that part of the DLC.

That is also an option that you can choose as buying the Characters in-game either through iridescent shards or Auric Cells (paid currency) you can choose to buy 1 character at a time as opposed to buying a full DLC with both killer and survivor in it.

You got through me explaining how to acquire DLC and characters and now you are thinking, Okay but why do I need different survivors/killers?

Every survivor and every killer comes with 3 unique perks that unlock teachable versions to show up on other characters' bloodwebs (progression buy items from a web for points you earned during the match system) at character’s levels 30,35,40.

So there is a chance that you might not like a character and you don’t want to play him/her/it but you like the perks that you can get out of that character, so you unlock it and level it up just to unlock the teachables for the characters you play.

It all sounds confusing at first but the depth the game has is pretty nice and gives you a lot of options to create a build you like running that makes it unique to you and your playstyle.

Considering that there are 27 survivors and 24 killers you have a lot of room to be creative with 95 perks on survivor side and 84 perks on killer side.
So to sum it all up, is it worth it to buy the game and all it’s DLC at full price?
Probably not, but is it worth it to buy it on sale? 100% yes
I would say that it is worth it to buy it all at full price as I did but there is no way I will tell a new player to spend 133~ euros on a game.
Now when you finally catch up and you only spend like 5 euros every 3 months it doesn’t feel that bad but buying everything at once from nothing is a little pricey.

As a last word of advice, if you are brand new to the game and you are looking to just buy 1 DLC I would personally suggest Leatherface as the man will give you the best bloodpoint farming perk in the game BBQ&Chilli that will heavily increase the bloodpoints you get each game as a killer.
