This feels very lazy. I get killed by bugs all the time and some lack of direction in cases that makes me feel like a mission is broken. I'm sure this was in the original game but you'd think a remaster would have fixed many of these things, but nope. they just lazily retextured everything and slapped it out for more money. I'd leave a longer review of this, but after trying for 3 times, I feel like its meh. It wasn't even that much of an improvement on the graphics really, doesn't feel like what it should have been graphic wise compared to the old game at the time it was released and yet you get low FPS in it as if they were improved. I have better graphics in other games with my FPS still high. You can see in some areas where they even decided not to touch the textures at all to improve them.

2070, and I can only run at minimum. I can't even use custom minimum because custom somehow changes the settings higher than minimum. On top of that, the puzzles feel more clunky, as if I'm lagging behind at 45FPS or so. And that was after I fiddled with settings for half an hour trying to get better than lowest settings by slightly.

I'm not sure I can recommend this anymore. Its rather, eh. Too flashy, too integrated into a global community that people have been saying sucks. You can't exactly enjoy the game in the way that you could Atomic Tanks. the way this is set up kinda feels like one of those micro transaction filled games and the time it takes to do things with each level is a little silly. Its also very very loud. I had to set the volumes in this game down to 20-30%. I wish it was more direct and to the point with things, rather than throwing all these flashy animations at you to make it feel all impressive when its just wasting time. I hate playing the missions because of that, if I fail, I have to wait for a stupid gear thing and level stats thing to pass before I can click retry and all that.

I kinda wanna go back to Atomic Tanks. I just wish that was on steam, and was multiplayer through steam.

I like small portions of this, but there are some major flaws in the game that I doubt will ever be solved. I'll be posting my feedback in the discussions area about the major flaws but I'll go ahead and lay some things out now that point out why I will not recommend this game at this time.

Terraforming is free easy map editing with no checks or safeties. All you do is drag the river tool or the flatten tool around and bam, it creates a river or flatland, ignoring things like mines, quaries, or even structures. You can build rivers under your homes, you can flatten mines and quarries and they all still operate just fine. Its the most lazy feature in the entire game. Its instant and free too, completely breaks all immersion.

Inventory system appears to suck, terribly. Things get scrambled every time I load a save. I can have a mostly empty stockpile set to only accept Timber when I log out, then I load the save and suddenly there's a bunch of random resources in it like food or whatever. I have no idea how those things even got there. I think the game automatically just shoves everything into a random storage if something was over capacity somewhere. Not to mention the category of items sucks. Why would Ink be lumped in with Timber? Ink isn't wood. There's many items like this, placed in incorrect categories.

The cloud layer which at first was nice, became annoying, the same cloud over and over, going around in a circle. Then I discovered it was all clouds and their speed was based on how far from center they were. It turns out, its just a rotating image, the laziest method of clouds I have ever seen. Sure, its literally just a shadow generator but come on.

I purposefully decided to destroy my settlement, and turns out even after all the people die, nothing bad happens. You just wait years on in for immigrants to show up and start again. Oh and research keeps going up with no population at all.

There are certain other nuances that all suck, some people have mentioned them in reviews, and I've tried to comment on a few reviews that mention the wrong nuances that are actually accurate to some degree. But eh. One silly one is the latrines which claim to collect animal poop but if you don't have them, human poop shows up around your homes. These latrines are ridiculous too because of their wide range and worker count and other factors, its really, very silly how this game was designed. It feels to me like something that was rush created to get it out and make some quick cash. I dunno. If the developers would like to chat with me, I have all sorts of feedback about how they can improve things. But, who knows if I'm gonna keep going with this. I don't think there's any mods in this game that can fix some of this hilariously bad design stuff though. However, if they do want to improve things, I'll go ahead and post my various feedbacks in due time in the discussions, or wait to be contacted.

At certain points in the game, there's no direction at all, you're left googling what to do next. I get that they try to make it more immersive and ♥♥♥♥, but I can't stand it when you get to an impassable location and there's no hints at all that you should progress further before going back to that point. "Hmm, maybe I should come back to this later?", something she could easily say. But nah. "Hmm, how do I get across?", or even just, nothing.

On top of that, the save point system really sucks, dying somewhere, you gotta run all the way back to where you were before and usually restart the process of what you were doing. Some enemies have ridiculous kill shots and ♥♥♥♥ that kill you super fast which causes you to go in a loop of running through the levels to get back to where you were again and again.

I dislike many portions of this game. I can't find it enjoyable, its directionless, has a meh plotline so far, I can't comment as to the rest because I didn't complete it but honestly, becoming boss just because you can walk into the building is ridiculous. Some other shallow story elements too but eh.

I'm very tentative about the game. There's issues, and there's the fun bits.

I like that you can deconstruct ships, and can get creative with how you do so. Its a very unique type of game that lets you feel like you're accomplishing something the faster you can go without screwing up.

However, there are several things that almost make me want to say no to the game's recommendation. Now, just cause I have a list of negatives that I'm going to provide thats longer than the above positive, doesn't make the game bad. I just want you to be aware of what you're going to experience while playing.

The game has 4 modes of play, all of which are separate entity save files so your progress in any one of them is completely separate. AKA, scanning for hard drives is useless if you plan to start a new file because you'll end up scanning the same drives all over again. Add to that, you can't combine features of certain modes, in my case I want one death mode, with no shift timers. I would rather have a profit per minute graph or something after my shift in that case.

If you beat the game in any mode, and restart to play a different difficulty or to try something different, maybe try to beat it faster, you will be forced to listen to every single dialog, even the meaningless useless ones that don't add anything to the story, most notably Lou who wants to whine and talk about her feelings constantly, locking you from going to end your shift till you listen to her annoying rants. Even if you've seen these dialogs before, you cannot skip them at all, and there's a lot of them. What the devs should have done is add these dialogs to your shift, so you can listen while working, based on the current danger level which they already have a calculation for which changes the music.

A large portion of the community into speed running and such, appears to play by using what I call exploits, and they just call game design because the devs haven't got a way to remove those features and said they won't. There are several exploits in the game, including ship dunking and pressurization hacks that let you speed things up in various ways. This isn't all of them as I don't know all of the cheese tactics these people use. The devs have said they won't fix certain things from what I hear, because they either can't, or the players like it.

There are several pressurization issues that don't make any sense, and have no logic to them. The game effectively forces you to do dangerous methods of depressurization, on purpose, and its required late game to explosively decompress your ships a very large portion of the time. The pressurization system I feel was handled very, very, badly. Admittedly, there are some reasons why they couldn't do certain things to make it better, but, there are also things they could have done to improve it.

Lastly, its worth noting that there's a woke vibe to the game. Its not bad enough for me to dislike it over, but it is slightly annoying if you think about it too closely. Lou, the POC lesbian girl who is smarter than all of the team and is an activist, and the dumb white male on the team who constantly screws up. I'm only talking about the team members who actually do work, not the guy who sits there watching you all giving you training and such. And then there's the fat white male who's evil and stuff. Its just a set of odd woke vibes I get from the game, like they wanted to promote current day woke-ness in some way or perhaps its required in order to win an award (which it is now days, you literally can't win an award if you don't check certain woke flags..) but eh, it only bothers me to some extent.

Once you actually get through the story, it can be entirely ignored though, and the game its self is fun after that as there are no more unskippable dialogs and no more bad white man shouting at you all or the constant reminder that the only other white male on the team is a screwup. The remaining occasional dialogs are actually kinda nice to listen to and can be done while playing rather than waiting for the shift to end so you can start the next. The gameplay, is great. I like it. If you play the right way, it can be interesting. If you're a speed runner and you don't care about breaking the rules, you can ship dunk and all that with no penalties. If you wanna play by the rules, it gets significantly harder to speed run. I think my highest income might have been 15 million in a shift.

I mainly wished to express the negatives, in the hopes that the devs read these reviews because I've expressed many things in the discord with not much comment on them, even during early access. All in all, even with the above negatives, I do like the game, though I may not end up playing anymore cause there's just no new ships, and modding barely exists, so the replay value is gone. If the game had a ship builder in it, used steam workshop, and had a better modding platform, its replay value would skyrocket. Perhaps for Shipbreaker 2 eh?

I just didn't find this very entertaining, especially in the way it handles some things. Like its designed to be streamed to an audience so people can watch you die in dumb ways and not actually progress anywhere. Personally I just didn't find it fun, it had no real direction to it. Plopping you in a world, and you're supposed to run around and die a lot.

Eh, funny for a bit, but then its just boring and silly. More like a flash game you'd find online somewhere back in the old flash days.

There's no tutorial. I literally streamed this for my first time playing and just wow. I should save that stream and upload it to my youtube so you can see how bad it went.

I'm fumbling around trying to figure out how to do things, the game didn't even tell me how to pull out my tool to harvest ground, as far as I could tell. Its version of a tutorial is a picture that tells you the basic keys.

Its got this clunky sorta interface which feels heavily controller oriented. Was this like, ported from console or something? Its smooth, sure, but it just doesn't work right, I don't like the interface in the slightest.

I will not support any game that requires you to look online for how to play videos. An in game interactive tutorial would be most beneficial. The interface alone makes me feel like, bleh, so even if the tutorial had existed to get me further, I don't think I'd have stuck with it. However had I known how to play, I might have accidentally exceeded the 2 hour time limit and lost my chance to refund... Soooooo. I mean. I guess its good they didn't tell me how to play. :|

I wanted to like the game, but, its aimless, kind of boring. The lack of multiplayer makes it depressing and lonely to play. Obviously the goal is to be lonely, but that makes a game not fun in my opinion. Who wants to sit there and feel alone all night while playing a game? Its not exactly a horror type thing either, its just a deep sea lonely exploration thing. I would have loved to go further into the game but I just can't get a feel for it. It has some unintuitive design to it that makes it less fun to play. Silly aspects to it that make you waste resources. The fact that resources don't respawn and you could lose stuff for good is something I don't like either but I hadn't experienced that yet. I keep getting damaged randomly by invisible things every so often which doesn't make sense, right after I scan some wreckage.

I just don't like it, it feels aimless. Like, they tossed you in and said "Survive" and left you there to figure out everything on your own. Thats the very worst part of a game, to leave you there not knowing what to do. Ark Survival did the same thing, but it was a little easier to figure out and you could play with other people. Aimless empty world devoid of any AI or friends, no thanks.

I got this, because people had reviewed it as ridiculously good, and aside from the bugs I encounter and some of the issues I ran into from the start, it looks great. Lots of interesting creatures and such. It may be a game for other people, but the music plays too little, and keeps you in a depressed lonely state while you search around for pieces to scan. Its just, ugh. I can't stand that. I don't want to be depressed by a game. Funny enough the description of the game never mentions how you'll be completely alone and put through this lonely depressing situation. But it does.

If it had multiplayer, and I could have a friend or 3 with me to play it with, it wouldn't be so bad. It'd still be a game of underwater exploration, and have all its same features of playing the game the way its intended (assuming the players don't abuse multiplayer mechanics), without being such a depressing game. Honestly, what were you guys thinking forcing a no multiplayer setup like this for a "sandbox" game. Hell, the habitat pieces you unlock indicate you could have people around. Why give players a bar table and bar stool if you can't have more people sit around with you anyway?
