Got this, got my friends to get it. Not on here, mind you, we were able to get this game for around $12, so I'm basing this off of that. I would not pay $50 for this game, to preface.

This game has been really damn fun in the time I've spent on it the past three days. The campaign is interesting and somewhat challenging in and of itself, the tracks are fun, and when you get bored/complete that, you can go to online play where you can play on player-made courses, jankiness and all! Also, it looks damn gorgeous.

The microtransactions for cosmetics and some cars is... meh. The entire season pass situation is quite ridiculous and unfair, that much I will agree with. Worth noting there are a good amount of free vehicles available, though, at least at the time of writing. Not that that justifies anything, though.

To those who are giving negative reviews about the initial crate opening... if I may ask, how do you buy coins? I ask because, to my knowledge, there's no way to buy the in-game currencies of coins or gears, and using coins is the only way to get blind boxes outside of earning them from the campaign, so it doesn't seem accurate to call it lootbox bait when you literally can't pay for them...

Overall, thumbsup from me. Again, this is for $12 though. Make your own informed decision.

And if your wondering how I got that price, two words: Humble Bundle.

New DLC is honestly pretty neat, I can't say much for content because I haven't seen everything from it yet.

But...

In what ****ing world do you look at the original codebase for a game, then the other one that was made to port to console that has a number of stupid quirks to it, and go: "eh, let's use the more broken one."

Acrid can't hit aerial enemies unless you land directly on top of them.

FPS determines DPS, speed of characters, etc.

Enemies now regularly glitch through walls when blasted back.

I still love this game, and will continue to recommend it, but I can only wonder... HOW MANY of these issues would have been avoided if they went THE OTHER WAY. (the correct way)

Yeah, console port times have been an issue of the past. But the solution to that isn't to break every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ version on release.

TLDR; If you like challenging platformers, this game is worth every penny.

My favorite 2D platformer of all time, and it's not even close.

This game undoubtedly has some of the most satisfying movement mechanics I have ever felt, with tech both intended by the devs, and some that definitely weren't that all add up to allow for such fantastically challenging, occasionally annoying routes to get through one room.

My old review went through the story of it all, I won't do that again. Best for you to experience that side of the game for yourself, not have someone explain it to you.

While I arrived here for the base game, though, I have stayed this extra 200 hours because of the absolutely bonkers community. The sheer number of modded levels is pure insanity, between spring collab, strawberry jam, secret santa, and a whole lotta other custom campaigns/levels that push the game to its limits, and then some. If you can think of it, someone's probably done it, and if not you could most certainly do it yourself!

Worth every penny, easily.

Oh yeah, and the music slaps.

Phew, this game has come a long way from when I first played it. Anyone remember when you would get a research item, and you would only have a random chance of getting the research you wanted? Also, all the vehicle bugs, one of which caused one of my friend's vehicles to be launched into orbit while just driving it around. Wasn't fun, but it was hilarious to watch.

I've come back to this quite a few times, but I don't think I've been blown away as much as I was going back into it today. The world I've looked at so far is so much more interesting, and the progression isn't too fast. This is coming from someone who already knew what they were doing for the most part when they launched up the game granted, so maybe take this with a grain of salt, but I don't regret buying this game, and I would say it is definitely worth the $.

Multiplayer may be broken a bit though, haven't checked that out yet. Keep this in mind, but I haven't seen anyone saying otherwise, and if they buffed out all the issues it used to have then I especially recommend this.

Toying with emotions is what this game does best in my experience...

What I mean by this is, you work so hard to get to the next area, and in the process of trying to figure out where you're supposed to go you end up launching yourself all the way back to the previous one, if not the one before that. With that said, I've noticed that it gets exceptionally easier to beat segments when you have already done them, and it only gets easier to do them as you play more, which I find to be an amazing way of seeing how far that you as a player have come.

From accomplishment to dread within minutes. I give it a solid 9/10.

Not much I can really complain about, considering its a free picross game on PC. Lots of levels, including user created ones that you can play. Some levels are decently hard, others pretty easy to balance it out. Definitely a good choice for a time killer if you're looking for some puzzling.

This is one of the first FPS games that I've enjoyed since I've realized that COD is crap. (and that I'm crap at FPS games)

Obviously, there are going to be a few issues at launch, and I have encountered a few myself, but I don't find them to be game breaking at all.(Quick question, can ANY of you think of a single game launch that started perfectly? Like, no need for bug fixes or anything? Low effort day one launches with no patches beyond that don't count, btw) I've had no crashing issues, and maybe one or two noticeable drops in framerate, but that's about it.

Okay, being (semi) serious, there are a few issues, map design being one of them. Personally, I don't see too many issues with this. In a team based game where you can use portals, I would think that the map design has to be quite symmetrical as to not give either side some unfair map advantage, but if one of you wants to prove me wrong, go ahead. Besides that, I do admit that falling off the map can be annoying in some of them.

TTK: Okay, this is an actual issue. In my experience, you hit someone with 10 or so AR bullets to no avail, but then get 3-tapped by the battle rifle. Shotgun makes sense close-range, but any more than a few feet away and it doesn't do nearly as much. The plasma rifle... no. Just no. Sniper makes sense, as does rocket launcher and railgun.

These are issues with main aspects of the game, and I understand that, but first of all, I STILL enjoy it despite all of this. (maybe that just says something about my inexperience with FPS games) I have a great time playing with friends. Also, it's worth noting that in this week of launch, there have already been 2 updates to the game, if that tells you anything about the devs.

I say, give it a shot. If you don't enjoy it, alright. Check back later if you see promise. I'm going to stay for the time being.

Terrible game. Hard stuck champ for at least 5 years.

Would recommend.

...save for ludicrously overpriced cosmetics. Thanks, Epic!

A friend introduced me to Dead Cells, and at first I didn't think I would like it. The only reason I was thinking like that was because of the rogue-lite branding, and since I had played The Binding of Isaac, I thought it would be similar.

Boy was I wrong.

I racked up more hours in this in the first two days than I have in TBoI after a few months of it sitting in my library. I would do a full breakdown of different game aspects, if I had any idea what I would be talking about from a critic's view. What I will do, is point out what I love about this game.

The movement and platforming to me is phenomenal. It is exceptionally smooth once you get used to it, and you get even better options for moving around as you progress. Plus, just moving in and out of tiny gaps with ease is just really satisfying to me. Especially when you're running away from an Elite and their hoard of minions.

The combat can range from tedious to extremely satisfying. This honestly can depend on your upgrades, but the types of runs you can make with how may different combinations and modifiers you can have on weapons make just about every weapon in the game useful in some form of run. That being said, there are still some absolutely useless items, even in legendary colorless form. Looking at you, spartan sandals.

Even then, it isn't entirely based off of what items you come across. Over time, you have to actually get better at the game in order to progress, which is good because it means that you aren't just waiting for some great item to show up that will make you a god every time you get it. It takes learning the move sets of each of the enimies, along with how to effectively use the weapons at your disposal, to get anywhere in the game. That, and effectively combining both combat and movement to avoid as much damage as possible.

The upgrades I honestly find to be an... interesting topic, to say the least. Personally, I quite like how you consistently are able to unlock and try out new weapons, no matter how good or absolute crap they are. I also like how you can't just remove them, because it means you won't always just have your same 2 trap crossbow and shield combo going every single run that would make it become repetitive. Now, I can get why some people don't like this, since sometimes you have to deal with a bunch of trash weapons in the same run. But even then, that's in the tagging of the game, and i honestly find those runs to be few and far between.

Last thing: bosses. Without getting into specifics, the bosses are quite fun to fight for me. Each one has their own style, which to me is big, because I feel that a lot of games like this just reuse the same sort of moveset, but just reskin it. Not that that's an entirely bad thing, but it just depends on the game that you're playing, and for this, it works.

Honestly, I just love this game, and I am just so glad my friend introduced me to it. I will say that they got the game for me, but I would have gladly paid full price.
