Game so Good the Hades Devs officially recommends it on Steam
(Not kidding!)

I came in expecting a great Silksong holdover, I left realizing Axiom Verge never reached its full potential.

The comparisons to Hollow Knight are warranted, but beyond the fact it's a melee metroidvania with kickass story, art, and music... it's very much its own beast. Much harder too.

The setting is incredible - their tech is so insanely advanced that the main problem you're tackling is how to get everyone to just die already. Their Taoist magic never took off so they said "fine, I'll do it myself" and made their magic come true with technology. Plz Red Candle Games if you do a GDC talk on developing your art style MY SOUL IS YOOURSS

The demo/Alpha buiild used to be on Steam. if you're not sure if you'd like it, it's floating around somewhere on itch.io .

Early Access Review
Can't say I've ever screamed over proximity chat to drown out my approaching squadmates' footsteps but hey

There's a reason they got Suicide C4 in the game

ROR IS BACK BABYYY

Also, can confirm RoR:R works really well on Wine. Beat Providence today on Monsoon on my Mac using CrossOver.

Motherlode (2004) meets the Atari's classic Missile Command!

A pleasant game, featuring a simple and fun gameplay loop that alternates between defending your Dome on the surface from the locals (the Missile Command bit) and mining resources below ground to keep it that way (the Motherlode bit). You can easily play this on your laptop.

Simple controls, great artstyle, pleasant and unobtrusive soundtrack, some awesome combat sound design, and a progression system deep enough to bite into but not enough to break your teeth from. Plus it's made in the Godot engine!!!!

PS: The game recommends playing with a trackpad but arrowkeys / WASD controls work just fine. Mouse not needed.

Great game, great soundtrack, great community. You'll need longer than the 2-hr review period to see if you'll like it.

You'll see a lot of reviews about how Rain World is difficult but yet VERY worth it, or how Rain World isn't a baby's game for baby people or whatever. Personally, I find that the "git gud" mentality doesn't work very well in Rain World. Let me explain.

If you've played Celeste, you'll know that you'll die hundreds if not thousands of times and the game is rather proud to declare that at the end of its technically demanding platforming sections. You die instantly in Celeste, like most platformers. You die instantly in Rain World too, but this is a survival platformer. You'll have to crawl your mangy hide all the way back to where you had just painstakingly gotten to and pray you can get yourself from Point A to B in that room safely.

Is it frustrating? Absolutely! Probably everyone in this review section has a story of a particularly huge defeat and they just... don't play Rain World for a week, month or two. **Rain World is not everyone's cup of tea.**

But if you're certain that you're determined to learn more about Why you insta-died to this one enemy, or How you can out-run a flying monster, or Where the most reliable food sources are... you'll find that Rain World has an incredibly engrossing story, cosmology, genuinely intelligent AI, and beautiful art and animation. It's seriously a gem.

But it's pretty damn hard to see if a diamond's worth it when it's uncut. You'll need to take the plunge to find out. Good luck, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do. Don't get upset when you die - it never mattered in the first place. ;-)
