Early Access Review
7 Days to Die is very much a case of "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

"Survival Crafting With Zombies" is a punchline, and it's a punchline for a reason-90% or more of the genre is asset flips, and the few ambitious attempts otherwise have generally gone dormant or straight up died after a few updates once the developers realize how far in over their heads they are.

7 Days to Die, on the other hand, is still around. Its development started in 2013, and has progressed dramatically since-with a few exceptions, all the stretch goals of its original Kickstarter have been met, and then some. The bandits were promised in Alpha 15 and are still missing, and the dynamic story generation system, animal taming, and ability to play as a "unique zombie" haven't been mentioned since the Kickstarter. Likewise, dynamic caves were trialed but never quite panned out (though there are a few prefab ones.)

It's ambitious, yet vaguely incomplete; comprehensive, yet not thought through. The thing is, nobody else has actually stuck with the genre and gotten a game further than The Fun Pimps have. This is also the closest you're going to get to "Modern Minecraft."

With a comprehensive modding scene and nearly a decade of content, however, any discontentment you have with vanilla can likely be remedied with user content.

7 Days To Die: Eh, Good Enough.
