So set the stage, this is a game I once loved. Up until the acquisition by Epic Games, Psyonix were slow and poor at communicating, but clearly had the interests of the game first. This all changed, and while I still frequently play the game, I am no longer an advocate, I have lost interest in it as an eSport and no longer wish for it to succeed. I will never willingly invest in a game by Epic Games again after they have done their best to ruin a game I once loved.

Edit 29/1 - in the name of banning "cheaters" psyonix seems to have thrown out their user base. Talk of anti-cheat is invasive and is never a good solution. Currently it seems steam has to validate my whole copy every time I launch it, which is an abusive of my system resources. I cannot recommend this game for a casual fan at all.

NOT RECOMMENDED

Note: hours played is untrue, I often use dll injection via winesync (bakkesmod) and steam doesn't correctly detect when I close the game if I don't kill everything.

EDIT 2:
As I predicted, Rocket League will no longer be available on Steam to new players. Another kick in the pants to players that use Proton to play. Next step will be some aggregious anti-cheat that won't work on Wine/Proton.

Epic has ruined Psyonix. No longer supporting SteamOS is the first step to no longer supporting Steam. MacOS and Linux are gone now too.

EDIT: Didn't age well =( :: Thanks for a great native Linux port!

Runs great on Debian Testing + KDE (NvidiaProprietary). Also runs great on integrated graphics. Older hardware is OK, but your CPU may be a bottleneck (tested with a couple of 2006 CPUs)

I have no reason to dislike Epic, I am a happy customer as long as Linux is continued as a first class customer.

Oh I see, it works on my end so I assumed it would be working for everyone ^^. I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 if that may help. Good luck!

@WaouBen Hey thanks, I spent at least an hour trying to debug the issue and it is far beyond that it seems. I have found some limited information on steam and protondb, and have pretty much given up. Many have reported issues with preloading of libraries, some have reported issues with AMD graphics cards.

Hi I saw your review of worms WMD and I wanted to answer. I couldn't do it under your comment so I'll do it there. Just wanted to tell you that when you launch the game it also give you the option to execute run.sh, and that works. Granted it's dumb to give the option to launch the executable directly if it doesn't work.
