Tetris Forever:
A nice novelty to experience just like reading a novel at the couch with hot tea.

I think Tetris Forever, as a collection, could've benefited from having some of SEGA's titles included, as they were a major development in Japan, and a core piece to Tetris there along with Bulletproof Software. They are mentioned, and magazine covers/imagery/videos are shown of those games, as well as a few non-SEGA titles that changed the play-field of the IP. While it may feel like it lightens the presentation, at the same time though, the disclusion of the more popular SEGA/Nintendo games makes sense to a degree in acquiring actual Tetris Forever licensing.

The collection itself is somewhat captivating for someone who hasn't seen the wild west of Tetris yet. It's a slightly more than lite representation of how different other Tetris titles were.

Everything is presented well enough for you to take your time and understand/enjoy the games and history, almost very much like a museum piece that introduces its own flair. My favorite part of this release is being able to see modern Alexey interact with Henk in real time. I do like seeing Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers on screen talking about the history of Tetris in their words from their mouth. It gives a dimension of experience hearing their personalities on the subject.

The new Tetris Time Warp mode is a simple concept, taking you through a few distinct eras of Tetris as explored through the narrative of the collection. I like the control mechanics changing based on what's being played, and the Versus mode feels a bit more exciting with the twist of using the time warp as a replacement to items or piece garbage.

Overall, I give Tetris Forever a 7.8/10.
It's no blockbuster Tetris release, but for what it has, a very cute and well packaged important history piece for 35 dollars.

The real test of a new Tetris release will be in the hands of Tetris the Grandmaster 4 releasing within the next few months soon...
