26/11/2018 & 18/03/2019

Firstly, I came to this game from Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Warfare.
Secondly, I have to say the game has a long way to go development-wise, BUT the developers are consistent with their updates and engage with the community in their Discord and answer any questions you might have for them.

Whether it's hopping on a public server a few rounds or joining the a public linebattle event hosted by the community, this game is fun. I'm part of a regiment and I spend around 5-6 hours a week just doing regimental events and linebattles, but I like to casually play on public servers and I can easily rack up many hours on this game. I always find myself playing this game every day.

PROS:
Gameplay.
-Big 75v75 player servers give the game an awesome and immense feeling. Players can step up and command groups of players, give fire orders, and perform flanking manoeuvres to try push the enemy team back. If that's not for you, then you might command a ship and have a large naval battle, or storm a coastal fort and take it for your own.

Community.
-Definitely a big pull factor for this game. The community is very friendly and accommodating. Whether that means roleplaying and generally having fun on a public server, giving advice to newer players or regiments hosting events for eachother. It's all done in good faith because the players enjoy the game and want other people to enjoy it too. Personally, I've made loads of friends through this game :)

CONS:
Melee.
-Melee is a big issue for the game at the moment. It's made leaps and bounds since first launch, but at the moment it's still not as responsive as the melee in M&B: NW - but I've heard it's the developers biggest focus at the moment and they're dedicated to making the melee better.

Content.
-As of time of this review, the game lacks a lot of things at the moment. There's only 3 factions at the moment (British, French, and Prussian) but the developers plan to add more (the community voted to add Prussia first). Naval battles are a bit buggy for now and they need to be polished. Cavalry is a big addition that the players have been asking for and the developers have said it will be added in the future. The game is still early in it's development phase, so I don't think I can be too harsh on the developers here.

SCORING:
Graphics 7/10
Content 6/10
Controls 8/10
Community 9/10
Gameplay 8/10

OTHER INFO:
Audience: Teens/Adults
Difficulty: You can play comfortably after a game or two, but hard to master.
Price: Worth the money.

OVERALL SCORE:
7.6/10

A fun game to play with much bigger things to come.
I'd recommend it to anyone.

UPDATE - 26/11/2018:

The developers have been listening to the community and have responded to the big issues.

Firstly, they have vastly improved and revamped the melee system. It feels a lot more fluid and smooth compared to when I first wrote this review. There's a lot more opportunities to have a meaningful melee duel with another player that showcases both players skills and not just who has better ping or whoever gets the first lucky hit.

Another major addition to the game is the new set of maps, the developers have been pushing out interesting new maps every so often for the game which receive praise from the playerbase. They've learned from the community and have worked on their strengths and weaknesses from previous maps.

The game still has a long way to go in terms of overall development, however the dev team have made leaps and bounds since relase and especially so in the last few months.

UPDATE - 18/03/2019 :

There's been a lot added since I last updated this review, but I'll try to cover the main points.

There has been massive quality of life fixes in the last few updates along with huge optimisation patches. Personally I've been getting an extra 40fps in some places (especially noticeable on linebattles with 150+ players).

Most exciting gameplay-wise is an entirely new class for the British called 'Rocketeer'. In addition to this, new rocket artillery has been added which can be tricky to use, but very satisfying once you get the hang of it.

Artillery has been slightly reworked with minor fixes, most notably round shot cannonballs now bounce off the ground, increasing potential for killing infantry.
Minor additions include siege ladders that can be moved and carried by players.

With the most recent update the developers have said:

"There’ll be more gameplay-oriented additions and improvements to existing core mechanics coming your way soon."

They have stayed true to their promises up until now, so things are looking good.
