Would I recommend this game?: (Updated) (Warning: Might hurt your feelings, Swearing)
In good faith, I cannot recommend the game its current state. Tough love.

If you do decide to play this game, it is best played with friends. The more friends, the better.

Both player hosted and dedicated servers can hold a maximum of 16 players in the regular shapeshifter/deception/among us gamemode, 10 for arena survival, and 8 for CO-OP campaign.

If you plan to play this game with friends, I'd highly suggest you or one of your friends to host the server, as it means that you can add a password so you can keep unwanted guests (i.e: griefers, toxic players) out. Hosting a server also allows you to customise the settings if you plan on playing the main shapeshifter gamemode with customisation such as options for traitors/no traitors, length of the each rounds etc.

If you have no friends, you can still host your own server, or play on a dedicated server, however a majority of the playerbase is on during North American daylight hours, so any time outside of that period, the game is pretty desolate in terms of playerbase and you'll most likely find empty servers. The majority of players on the dedicated servers are usually tryhards and make the game a very unfun experience to play against.

Negatives:
Zag, if you are reading this, fix your game.

The monster and spacemen tutorials are very inadequate in teaching the player on how to play the game, and even then, it should be well telegraphed on what a new player has to do within a round, as the tutorial and public server game spaces are quite different, and more incentives have to be given for players to play the tutorials in the first place. There also needs to be a traitor round, and the fact that there is no traitor tutorial is abysmal and confuses new players. Gunplay is also a key feature of the game, so you need to make it clear within the game itself that the game is a mixture of firefights and deception as many players come to Unfortunate Spacemen thinking that the game is similar to Among Us, when in fact, they're both very different games, which results in the player's expectations not being met, and them being disappointed.

There are also many bugs and glitches in the game that need to be fixed, such as burrow evolving, trash compactor not killing people, potato mode being poorly optimised (despite potato mode literally supposedly being the low end graphics setting for the game), broken tasks on Kema and maps being poorly optimised, etc. If you want this game to be successful, you have to patch these bugs out. I understand that you are busy on Abiotic Factor, but it is unfair to the consumers if you keep the game up, as it is in its current state, while also keeping in microtransactions (the stockpile market), and the majority of the people who try the game out are kids who don't know any better.

The community's track record isn't stellar either. The community has shrunk to a very small group over the years, and like most other gaming communities, suffers from tryhards and toxicity, especially towards new players. When playing on a dedicated lobby, new players tend to be at an immediate disadvantage when playing with higher level players due to the lack of unlocked perks. Players who have played for a long time also tend to trust new players less, preventing them from getting power weapons or anything nice and these players will decimate new players, as both spaceman and monster, which can lead to new players that play as monster getting killed near instantly after the start of the round, and new spaceman players being discriminated (overtly and covertly) against due to their cosmetics and experience, or the lack thereof and can lead to newer players being berated. The community gatekeeps heavily, and it affects the game negatively as well. If you're reading this and you're a long time player, please be kinder to the new players, we were all like them once.

Tryhards can also affect new players in a negative way, as they will resort to speedrunning tasks, or hunting down the monster to the detriment to the rest of the lobby, with some killing anyone and everyone who gets in their way. This can result in older players outpacing new players, and results in the game becoming unfun for newer players.

Furthermore, with the 1.3 update (Perkageddon), perks, especially in the profession section have become more visible, such as soldiers having large bulky backpacks, or medics having a medpack or their backs. This inherently was not bad by itself, however, these visual cues are called out by tryhards (e.g: "monster is a soldier with a blast collar") which removes a portion of the deception and mystery of who the monster could be (as with the previous example, the example callout means that anyone who isn't a blast collar soldier is safe). Pre 1.3 games never had this problem as everyone used the same visual gear, which encouraged players to figure out the monster through other, more creative means and made the game more entertaining for both the monster and the spacemen, rather than a sweatfest.

As this game is first and foremost, a PvP shooter, game sense and map knowledge are key and new players are not given a safe environment to practice. This leads to new players feeling that they died unfairly, which is true, due to the large skill gap.

I am a part of this game's community, and I am guilty of this too. Watching the community tear itself apart over drama is painful to remember, and I am also part of the tryhard problem. There is too much of a skill gap for new players and veteran players to co-exist in the same lobby without causing friction as the 'meta' of the game has become so competitive and toxic that the game is barely about deception anymore. It's just about who can kill the fastest. When I play with new players, I'm forced to either play like I had a lobotomy, which new players feel like the win wasn't earned, or play as I usually do, which results in a curb stomping and is unfair to the new players. It shouldn't have to be like this, and everyone should be able to have fun regardless of skill level, game sense, or play time. This ultimately results in either parties having fun.

These can detract from the experience of playing the game, which is why I highly recommend playing with friends as it provides a safe place where everyone is at the same level and can have fun.

Zag, we may not see eye to eye, but I love this game, and I know some people who do too even if we too may not agree on matters about the game. This my love letter, is a cry for help, and we hope that you come back to this game after you finish with Abiotic Factor and give this game the love it deserves. This game still has a chance.
