TLDR; The game has it's faults; but overall the gameplay and experience, especially with friends, is of the highest quality.

This review is after having played Destiny since 2014, and seeing all the changes, for better or worse, that have come to the game. Let's start with the downsides; it does require a lot of time investment if you want to get a lot of the cool stuff the game has to offer, so the more casual player beware. Destiny is also difficult to stay invested in if you don't have a group to play with; solo play is an option, but it isn't optimal. If you are a fan of Borderlands, and think this game would be up your ally, it's probably not what you are looking for. Generally I've found those that like Borderlands don't like Destiny, and vice versa. While they are both looter shooters, their tones and gameplay are vastly different.

With that said, I personally really enjoy this game. It has a rich lore, that while you don't have to read the earnable lore books, they enrich your experience in game. The gunplay is highly rewarding, and super smooth. (though I'm biased on that point because my brother worked at Bungie at the time, and worked on the systems in place for the FPS element, which he was very proud of, and I tend to agree with him). I also love how Bungie has evolved the game over the course of the last seven years. I don't always agree with some of the changes they make, but overall I like the direction they are pointing the game. And if you do have a group of friends that will play with you, you will get the most out of the experience.
