A very fun game with too many problems to be considered a real competitive game. It shouldn't be considered competitive because a lot of the game's functions and features are left up to chance. Whether the server detected if you were slightly slipping as you shoot, (even if you aren't, it can still register as such and your projectiles will land nowhere in comparison from your client side to the server side. All hit registrations are up to chance. Picture the above scenario, but this is exponentially problematic when you consider that You (unreliable client at 120 fps 25 ping) Server (Unreliable and problematic to every degree perceiveable) and Player^[total player count] (unreliable client playing from east asia, 130 ping, undetermined fps values).

So not only does the game have extreme problems properly detecting projectiles, it often rewards players with the worst connections for playing as such. This is another Value to add to the equation. You have the problems of the server itself, and players that are aware of it's problems and choose to exploit it. Anyone that is left playing this game is usually exploiting some connectivity issue, or exploiting some animation or character model issues. (Yes, there is a pay to win skin and the developers are well aware of it and encourage the purchase of it.)

Do I have to get started on the hackers? If you are in the 5-6 star ELO, you will often come across cheaters who have bushes disabled, and clear wireframe/wall hacks. Very often.

The biggest issues with this game that plague it is the fact that it is on an outdated engine that has been in developement since 2012 and recycled and reused and repurposed a number of times. Hunt was supposed to be a 4 player coop. Wrap your head around that. The engine can't even be updated to use DLSS, ETC, that is how old it is. The engine is rotting and plauged with issues with hit detection, desynchronization. It is no doubt horrible and muddled and uncared for.

That being said, if you can look past those issues and frustrations, it is a fun game that did very well in the sound and art department, but the gameplay department failed horribly.

TLDR: You will be wondering why your bullets simply go through people who are standing completely still, you will wonder why a player just quietly accepts 5-6 long rifle ammo rounds into their chest/head area, but they simply refuse to fall down. You will wonder why you are getting hitmarkers without kills. You will wonder why you won't even be bothered with a hitmarker on a still-standing target 3 meters away. You will teleport through walls and doors you have ran through. You will be running (but standing still on the enemy's screen) because of serious desynchronization issues. Don't get me started on the hackers.

IMPORTANT: You have to consider that your projectiles are affected by MANY MANY factors! As I said the game could "pretend" you are sliding, when you really arent. AND it can PRETEND the ENEMY is sliding AS you take your shot. All of the factors REALLY REALLY REALLY add up! Just imagine how this impacts how many "clear hits" that you miss anyways JUST BECAUSE. Now add the factors that Eastern countries exploit ADDITIONAL connectivity issues ON TOP of all of that. Just imagine.

If you can deal with that frustration, by all means have fun. But it took me 1.3 thousand hours to figure out how bad it was. Most people don't understand how deep it goes. Please take my word for it.

To put this into perspective, at any given moment, any given step, at any given shot, you could be "desyncing" and wouldn't even know it. To beat a dead horse, the trading of kills in this game is out of hand. About 1/5th of ALL my kills, ends up in a trade, and it always seems I die 2-4 seconds after I have finished my target. It is insane.

The gall of this company astounds me, there are game breaking issues that people abuse that allow them to see through walls by manipulating the physics of a ladder. The devs have known about this for more than a year and have done nothing about it.

All of these issues that are so glaring, so astounding, so unacceptable, yet all the Crytek team seems to care about is releasing more and more skins. That is all they are doing. They won't bother to fix the issues this game has. They just care about money. The worst part is, people are stupid enough to purchase them because they do not understand the concept of money. More than likely, the money comes from their parents so they do not have the self-respect to understand the power they are giving to the Crytek team.

2024 review update:

Craptek will now BAN a beta supporting 3k hour player with full event/twitch drop participation for simply defending themselves against team killing trolls!

If you play RANDOMS ONLY, teammates will often kill/troll you. If you defend yourself, CRAPTEK WILL BAN YOU. If you message them on discord about it, THEY WILL BAN YOU FROM DISCORD! Horrible company. Do NOT give them any money please, your account is temporary.

I've also bought upwards of 7 COPIES OF THIS GAME for FRIENDS! Thats how they treat me.
