Hey!
We're all broken-hearted poets with dry bones, thirsting after a drink of water, and looking for a roll of tape... but not the generic store brand stuff. We're not exacting talking duct tape either. Probably some medical-grade extra duty special tape. You know what? We need a magical roll of tape. The insta-heal extra-absorbant broken-heart-fixing kind.

Hey! The name's Mr. (My name always starts with Mr.) and I am overwhelmingly fascinated by Jesus. I don't know what you've heard about Him, but He's far different from what I ever imagined. Maybe you've looked at Christianity and thought "These people are hypocrites ... like really." Maybe, "I've never met this Jesus guy, but I'm sure He'd never act like that..." Maybe something else along the lines of "Oh. This is for everyone... but me." Or maybe you felt marginalized, minimized, not good enough, or just racked with doubt. The funny thing is, Jesus interacted with people that dealt with all of this stuff and more. He hung around with the outcasts, the desperate, the broken, and rebuked the religious hypocrites (you have no idea how offensive Jesus was (He was publicly executed because of it), but He only ever spoke the truth in love!). He was sick of religion without heart, tired of people missing the point.

He destroyed the idea of ‘list’ ianity, essentially saying that Christianity goes far deeper than following a list of do’s and don’ts. He showed us it’s far more than our feelings or emotions. In fact, emotions typically have nothing to do with our standing with God. He showed us that we deserve a just wrath upon us, but He opted to bear it for us instead.

I’m amazed because Jesus, the son of God/God incarnate, doesn't come with hardcore judgment, but instead He hates the injustice He sees (and does something about it and bears it on Himself), He identifies with the downcast (brokenhearted, desperate, etc), and He’s gentle and lowly at heart (the animating core of who He is, is completely understanding, tender, gentle, self-less, and self-giving). In the midst of all our imperfection, Jesus just stands out. Jesus shows us the heart of God, and it’s far better than what I ever imagined.

Side note- There's so much more to be mentioned about who God is, about the depth of our problem, and about what Jesus did for us, so if any of this resonates with you or if any of this makes sense, post a comment and send a friend request, and we can talk about it if you want. Lastly, I don't claim to be perfect or even lacking hypocrisy (I have my fair share), but I do claim that there's forgiveness and freedom in Jesus, and even at our worse, there's a friend that sticks closer than a brother, and a father that will never leave His child. I also don't claim that God automatically fixes all of our problems or that we no longer feel sad or alone (check out Paul in 2nd Timothy), but it's because of Him that we can know a transformation (although not perfection) into who God's calling us to be (and that's not a boring, blind-faith following hypocrite, but rather a bold, radical, love-giving, justice-bringing, self-sacrificial advocate for the downcast and the lost).

So... we have to do what we can to stop them from perishing.

Well according to the Scripture, the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, so.....
