Defenatly recommended
One of the most fun games but u need to watch a video before playing to even start understanding what is going on
A lot more fun if you are playing with a friend

After my 700 hours i Started comp. I have to say, if you wanna get better, and you feel like you arent doing so, you should consider starting comp. I was playing with a lot of randoms, just not understanding the game, i was a casual at that time and didnt know the comp scene as much. A friend got me into it and it help A LOOOOOOOOT. I can definitely say that i would be sooooooo bad right now if i hadnt joined comp. Ask someone familiar for links etc. Start playing 1v1s, customs with restrictions(scrims). Comp is all about playing with others who try to win, dont troll, no "merci" no funny slug race and most importantly, reducing chances of losing by not relying on killer/surv mistakes.

Dont be afraid, there are a lot of beginner friendly teams who are willing to spend time and learn together.
