I've been waiting since 1977 to tell this flute story. I was living on Shi Shi beach on the Washington coast, little shack at the edge of the woods. I, and others, had this fantasy of bales of weed floating up on the beach or being dropped from planes. One sunny day a friend and I were walking the beach looking for what the tide brought in. A small plane, maybe a Cessna, flew over us and it looked like he was searching for a place to land. The guy picked the worse place on the beach to land and a wave caught him, got stuck in the soft sand. We tried helping him out of it, pushing the plane while he revved it. I was pushing on a strut and the thing bent, like a light metal tube. He had a young girl with him, 15, maybe 16, wonder why he was landing?

She had a flute, he said he would take her for rides and she would play the flute for him. That is exactly what he said. He was in fear for his life, he had to get her back before her father found out. I baby sat his plane all night, and remained silent in exchange for a huge bag of bud. He got her back on time and returned the next day with a new strut and a crash helmet. Kind of related.
