As a fan of both Marvel and competitive gaming, I was initially excited about Marvel Rivals. The idea of pitting iconic Marvel characters against each other in a fast-paced, strategy-driven environment had so much potential. Unfortunately, the game falls flat in so many areas that it’s hard to ignore just how disappointing the overall experience is.

Gameplay – Boring and Repetitive

At its core, Marvel Rivals should be all about intense, tactical battles. Instead, it offers shallow gameplay that quickly becomes repetitive. Characters lack the distinct abilities and personalities that make them beloved in the comics and films. Whether you’re playing as Spider-Man, Captain America, or Black Panther, the gameplay feels the same — no matter who you choose. The skill moves are generic, and there's no real sense of progression or depth.

The combat system is clunky, with poor animation that makes the action feel sluggish. Often, I found myself frustrated with how unresponsive the controls were, especially during key moments in battle. And let’s not even get started on the AI opponents. They’re either too easy to beat or so frustratingly overpowered that it makes you want to throw your controller.

Graphics and Sound – A Letdown

Considering how visually stunning Marvel movies and comics are, Marvel Rivals should have delivered something spectacular in terms of visuals. Instead, we’re given outdated graphics that look more like a rushed mobile game than anything fit for a console or PC. The character models are stiff, and the animations are jarring, making it hard to immerse yourself in the world.

The sound design is no better. The voice acting feels uninspired, and many of the sound effects are recycled, which makes the whole experience feel lazy. Even the music, which could’ve been a highlight, is forgettable and repetitive.

Monetization – A Cash Grab

One of the most frustrating aspects of Marvel Rivals is its monetization. While it may start off feeling like a free-to-play game, it quickly becomes apparent that the game is designed to push players toward spending money. Unlocking characters, skins, and other content feels like an endless grind. You’ll find yourself constantly being prompted to buy something, whether it’s through in-game currency or microtransactions. What should have been a fun and accessible game is marred by the overwhelming feeling that it’s more about squeezing money out of players than delivering a quality experience.

Lack of Innovation and Depth

In the world of gaming, innovation is key to keeping players engaged, but Marvel Rivals fails miserably in this regard. It feels like the developers took a generic fighting or strategy game template and slapped Marvel’s name on it without any real effort to enhance the formula. There’s no real strategy or depth to the mechanics — it’s just a matter of picking your favorite hero, mashing some buttons, and hoping for the best.

Conclusion

In a market filled with innovative superhero games, Marvel Rivals is a huge disappointment. It fails to deliver in nearly every aspect — from its repetitive gameplay and clunky combat to its underwhelming visuals and aggressive monetization. For a franchise that’s known for delivering epic stories and action-packed experiences, Marvel Rivals is a huge letdown. If you’re a Marvel fan, do yourself a favor and skip this one. The only thing Marvel Rivals truly rivals is the wasted potential that could’ve been something much more engaging.

I am unsure of why they took a game we all loved and made something else entirely.
The workers is all I will say and I need say no more, it makes no sense and feels like maybe they originally meant for this to be a mobile game on someones phone.

I got it at 91% discount and still wanted refund but I would need to submit for every DLC and part of this game and since it was cheap I'll keep just for the metrics on my profile.

Shame on you FRAXIS, what is this game and what were you trying to make.

This is not Sid Mieier's anything, Alpha Centauri was better than this.

So much fun this is GTA V with futuristic tech and a better looking Protaganist lol. Yes this game is the bomb a little complex so many abilities and different options while moving around and the ability to just steal from other players open world are a few issues I can see but those are so tiny doesnt even really matter. Surprised this game has gotten such bad reviews just takes a little longer to grasp and get good at but overall a fun game.

All the Dawn of War games are just amazing and if you are into the Warhammer 40k universe than man this is for you. I cannot wait until 3 comes out the new scaling for the large units makes me go SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Great game just wish they had done better with controller and a few other issues.

Uh its South Park and its almost the MMORPG I was hoping for so yeah I gives them the thumb up.

Amazing game and toons love the use of Gods brilliant. Also what a fresh take on a Moba good job guys should have put this up a long time ago lol. Got the god pack when it was in Alpha phase and it was suppose dto be a boon for us that participated then it was made available to everyone not cool man.
