So this is an incredible repacking of the DOOM games that really breathes life in to their old bones and tbh is what we should have got in 2019.

But I have some seriously big gripes with it so far:
  • No way to turn off background gameplay when in menus, even mod browser.
  • No options to clip through players in co-op, narrow pathways kill the flow of gameplay.
  • No kill feed or player names in death match, impossible to know who you're killing or being killed by.
  • No way to search mods based on keyword (seriously?).
  • Mod filters and page number resets when backing out of viewing a specific mod.
  • No way to unsubscribe from mods in the Play menu.
  • No way to filter by liked mods.
  • Achievements are boring and lack any creativity.
And I'm sure there's more I've not encountered yet. These might be small issues to some, but for me they feel like really obvious omissions that give the port a sense of laziness.

You only have to play 16 player co-op for 2 minutes to realise the lack of player clipping is a big issue, you only need to browse the mods for 30 seconds to realise it's a chore and you only have to get one kill in matchmaking to notice it's lacking key information that elevates the experience.

For these reasons, I can't currently recommend this release. It has too many rough edges that honestly surprise me coming from Nightdive.

I should note, most of my gameplay experience so far comes from playing on the Xbox port, but I've checked and all the issues listed apply to the PC port version too.
