Base game is very fun to play either alone or with friends assuming you make a friends-only lobby. Playing with random players on Versus is very hit-or-miss depending on each player's experience with the game.

One thing I do want to mention is that playing Campaign on single-player mode will still have bad hit registration because it runs on a local server using the default command variables that are configured for online multiplayer. If you want to have a more fluid experience when playing alone, install the Admin System from the Steam Workshop and add the following command variables to `cvars.txt` in `/Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/ems/admin system/`:
