Dead By daylight (DBD) what a game, this is a roller coaster with its up and down. It is not perfect mainly with needing to pay for majority of better parts of the game (With branded names it IS understandable that they need to pay for it). Either playing survivors with friends up to 4 in total, including yourself, to fix 5 generators to leave via 2 exit gates or a hatch for 1 special person (or with a key, with load-outs) or being a killer and trying to murder and not let anyone escape.

Good game for team bonding or really to make you think, I suggest watching pro players play to learn a more passive way. (Otzdarva is a good place, he is where i learned to be good and learn really good tips, good kind streamer).

Learning different load-outs comes over time and with the in store shrine of secrets, you can spend shards (you get these from leveling up) to get good perks and not pay real money or with already unlocked characters, get their teachable perks just by leveling them up and able to use perks with any of your characters.

The matchmaking is a bit messed up with ranks mixing at higher to low ones but normally, you should be okay with playing with people on your level in the beginning, around rank 10 (lowest is 20, highest 1) is when it starts getting funky.

I recommend trying to just have fun and try new play styles, you have good days and bad days.

Gen-rush and loop, sacrifice and chase. good luck!
