White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a remake of the original, while visually different yet definitely improved from the original with rather nicely detailed environment and characters, the atmosphere sure is there as much as I can tell from my hours of experience. I have played the original when I was able to on another computer, I rather liked it despite it's flaws, whether obvious or not, and now to the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • A detailed and atmospheric environment, the creep factor is there if you know little to nothing of the game, and even if you played the obscure original, it will still be a haunting experience, at least it was for me.
  • The controls are pretty fluid, upon release there were a few issues with the UI but they have been fixed and there is controller support for those that prefer it, I myself prefer the use of mouse and keyboard, of which the UI has mouse compatible interface, which it did not possess upon release.
  • The lore itself is rather interesting and the ghost collection stories are written well enough, they left me wondering what drove these poor souls to become such angry spirits, while not every single ghost is out to get you, to experience this game fully, Hard mode is your best bet.
  • The tutorials explain what is needed to be understood as good as it could be told, you can interact with a lot of the environment, some of the puzzles are somewhat vague but there are clues to how to solve them, if you're perceptive.

Cons:

  • The Janitor can be a problem, he is persistent but can be avoided, Bong-Gu, the first janitor within the Main Building 1 and 2 is easier to avoid due to the limp he has, but they both can still be annoying when you're trying to do something that would progress the game.
  • Some items you may find have no use and I don't know why they exist without one, the video tape for example, even in the original it had no use or nowhere to be used, seemed like a waste of an opportunity perhaps.
  • The excessive requirement to fill the ending collection jigsaw is a bit ridiculous in my opinion, you essentially have to play the game through on every difficulty at least five times each, totalling of up to 40, 50 if you unlock Yoo Ji-Min and it depends on what dialogue options you pic for each of the three girls.

Despite the flaws and some minor issues I've had with the interface before it was patched, I've had no bugs or glitches, no crashes whatsoever, overall it's a pretty stable release and I've more than enjoyed myself playing the game, at the time of this review I've almost got every ghost story and seen every ghost, just missing a few.

I'll give it an honest 8/10, good job Sinnori, I'm happy with the remake and glad you've brought it to us in it's horror giving glory.

He was very generous too! Buying me games I couldn't afford so we could play together and we always had a great time, even just chatting in discord, and in skype before discord came around

@UnfortunateGod No problem, he is sorely missed, he was a good friend and we had some good memories shared, he had a great sense of humor to boot.

@UnfortunateGod He sadly passed away almost three years ago... he had a leg infection and sadly passed due to complications caused by covid, at least that's what I was told.
