The long wait is over. The game that was kick-started as Shadowrun Online is here now as: Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown.

Why has it taken so long to get here? For those unaware, there was a complete turn-over in the development team. A player can see this for themselves when they look at the long list of those credited with working on this game. Cliffhanger Productions took over development and has brought the game to those who dreamt and paid for this game as kickstarters or as early release players. Cliffhanger and their talented crew have excellent experience in working with the game engine and have a solid history of releasing updates and new content with their previous projects. As developers they are uncommon in their excellence by frequently listening too and communicating with the game community on desired features and improvements. This means, that they were able to provide a relatively polished game at release with the full promise and expectations for new story, material and addition to be expected to enrich the game experience and storyline.

What does this mean as of today, release date? You can expect that there might be a few hiccups like with any game at release. You can trust in Cliffhanger's development crew to squash bugs, balance gameplay, add features and with the assistance of official Shadowrun story creators, you can cut a razor sharp line as you navigate a new and developing adventure in the Shadowrun Universe. Also, any complaints from backers or 'traditional Shadowrun gamers' should take into consideration that this game almost didn't happen and the developers picked up a failing project and still brought it to market because of their love of the source material.

The story takes place in a city that has not ever been included in the deep history of Shadowrun. This gives the players and official Shadowrun storytellers to create a new experience in a rich world of cybertechnology and magic.

As a player, you can create your own meta-human and customize it in your own unique way as you journey through the current story. A player can make their own arch-type as they see fit. You are not limited to the standard tabletop pen and paper rules. This means your own imagination and planning gives you an experience you control. Yes, using cyberware does limit a player's ability to use magic. That still is there like those familiar with the standard game would expect. But, you can have your own mix of skills being a combined summoner and rigger using spirit beasts and deadly drones as you prefer. Or, you can mix ranged hacking skills with channeled mana attacks. It is an open skill system to explore just as much as the adventure of the story.

What else is there to say? Jack-in, lock and load and summon the magic spirits and join others in the alleys of Boston to become a legendary shadowrunner!

POST NOTE - SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: I am having no problems running this with my this with my dual-core 2gb ram winXP desktop. Wereas, my newer single-core 4gb ram win7 laptop, it is a bit sluggish. So, even though system requirements do not say anything about winXP - chances are you can run it on that OS if you have good systems gear.

Erm.. Cliffhanger was there from the beginning of the Kickstarter campaign.
There were some misconceptions in the community about the "online" bit - I also was one of the people thinking more of a World of Warcraft open world kind of game.
But this was never realistic with the achieved funding.
They also threw out some of the features / stuff, they wanted to do for the game.
This happens in development... sad, but not always possible to avoid.
I still hope, they bring a bit better character creation to the game later on.
