Great flight model, sound design, virtual reality, and wide open universe are some of the highlights of this game. It is visual, and orally impressive.

That being said, the job application for gamer in this universe says "being a self starter is a must". Aside from a limited tutorial showing you how to fly and dock, you really need to decide for yourself what the campaign is for this experience. If you're goal oriented and getting the best ship in the game is your goal you'll run out of things to do in short order. Even if you find the perfect combat build or optimal mining rig, achieving that goal does take time, but not enough to call it a game. You'll need to define your own "raison d'etre"

You need to be able to create your own adventure, or better yet find groups, not just one group, but many groups. With so many play styles and loops having folks to engage with wings, open pirating/bounty hunting, trading, etc. Having a group of groups to play with will ensure an online experience. But playing with yourself is always an option too. Explore the Guardian's history and technology, or hunt 'goids. Point is you need to decide, the game won't tell you.

Do I recommend it? No. Not for everyone. But nearly 2000 hrs in and I still play. Although I have to admit, I've played since I was a kid in the '80s on my Commodore 64 with a ColecoVision controller. Now I have a cockpit, with a HoTaS, pedals and Virtual Reality.
