I rarely write serious reviews on games, since I don't think it is worth my time. Here on Steam they're mostly for trolling or from people who are butthurt because they can't read hardware recommendations.

So, anyway.

Unfortunately I wasn't into this kind of rpgs when Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 came out, so I just missed them out and couldn't get myself to play them nowadays because of the, lets say rustical, graphics. This isn't meant in a bad way though.

I've played games with way much older graphics, but I actually played them back then and kinda have my nostalgia glasses on...or maybe it is just the tadpole in my brain? Who knows?

Frankly, I didn't had Baldurs Gate 3 on my radar just right before it came out. When it was released and everyone was freaking out..I was kinda cautious. Just because 9 out of 10 games just aren't up to the hype and straight up sucks.

But not with this one. I never regretted the 60€ on this game. To this date I've played 112 hours, which already meant I got enough fun for my money. But oh boy.. I'm just halfway through my second playthrough, and already planning the third one.

"Well Sayst, thats a really cool story, but what about the game now?", you might ask.

Lets get to it.

Where do I start?

There isn't much bad to say about the game. But that doesn't mean there aren't any downsides ;)

The story is well written, with minor flaws. When you've played BG1 and/or 2, you will probably have some "Ahh, I know this one" - moments.

Except for some 1-2 occasions I was always eager to continue my journey and see what happens next. Depending on your decisions you will experience different outcomes that will change the story, not that much, but enough to want you to play another playthrough just to see what could have been.

Your companions feel like real persons with personality. The voice actors did a marvelous job, especially Neil Newbon as Astarion..god I love that sassy m*****f****r.

The questdesign is also good, I've never had a quest which just felt like your 0815 "go to A and get me B".

Depending on your class choices, most of the encounters feel well balanced. Except for 1-2 boss encounters.. YES I'M TALKING TO YOU RAPHAEL!

But even if you were unlucky with your class choice, or straight up didn't gave a damn because you just wanted to be that sassy bard who wants to annoy everyone with his music skills...fear not.. you always can change your and your companions classes.. the latter one wasn't an option for me because of role play reasons.

"Okay...but what about the downsides? There have to be some?"

Yes, there are some. But most of them are not that bad.. if you ask me.

The inventory management for example is just frustrating and sometimes confusing...looking for that one specific item? Have fun crawling through your carefully handpicked (or stolen) loot. Or why isn't there an encyclopedia for all the books you can find? Why do we have to drag them around or at least put them in the stash?

But that is nitpicking if you ask me.

Sooo, to come to an end...Larian really did a marvelous job again. And I'm looking forward to play their next games.

Have a good one.
