Sorry Matt, I didn't see your message earlier. To answer your question about being hurt in X-COM, you were wounded only once when an enemy threw a grenade at a gas pump I had positioned you behind. It was a minor injury and you were in treatment for two days. Also, you've never missed a shot with your rifle.
