Shina Ninomiya as a Date A Live Spirit with a Keyblade
Background
Shina Ninomiya, originally the project director of the VR MMORPG World’s Odyssey and a key character in Death end re;Quest 2, finds herself transformed into a Spirit in the Date A Live universe. In this crossover, her tragic past—losing her mother, surviving a near-death experience, and her entanglement with virtual and real-world struggles—manifests as the source of her Spirit powers. Her Spirit codename could be "Arachne", reflecting her association with spiders (like her buggy in Death end re;Quest) and her intricate, web-like connection to virtual realities.
Spirit Form and Astral Dress
As a Spirit, Shina’s Astral Dress, dubbed "Elpis Code", takes inspiration from her maid outfit in Death end re;Quest 2 and her role as a programmer/director. It’s a sleek, high-tech dress with a mix of gothic and cyberpunk aesthetics—black and violet tones, adorned with glowing digital patterns resembling code fragments. The dress has a flowing, web-like cape that shifts dynamically, symbolizing her ability to weave and manipulate realities. Her hair gains a translucent, ethereal quality, with faint spiderweb-like streaks running through it, tying into her "Arachne" theme.
Angel: Keyblade "End Requiem"
Shina’s Angel manifests as a Keyblade called "End Requiem", blending her Death end re;Quest identity with Kingdom Hearts flair. The Keyblade’s design incorporates elements of her story:
Blade: A sleek, double-edged form resembling a corrupted data stream, with jagged, glitch-like protrusions.

Guard: A circular shield with a spider emblem, representing her buggy and her protective instincts.

Hilt: Wrapped in digital webbing, glowing faintly with violet light, symbolizing her connection to World’s Odyssey.

Keychain: A tiny holographic orb displaying the World’s Odyssey logo, tying her origins to her weapon.

"End Requiem" is a versatile weapon capable of both physical combat and channeling Shina’s Spirit powers. Its name reflects her journey in Death end re;Quest—seeking an end to her struggles while delivering a requiem for the corrupted worlds she’s faced.
Powers and Abilities
As a Spirit, Shina’s powers revolve around virtual manipulation and spatial distortion, drawing from her programming expertise and her experiences in glitch-filled game worlds. With "End Requiem" as her focal point, her abilities include:
Glitch Weave: Shina swings her Keyblade to create webs of corrupted data that ensnare enemies, slowing their movements or distorting their perception of reality. This mirrors her encounters with bugs and glitches in World’s Odyssey.

Debug Strike: A powerful Keyblade slash that "deletes" enemy attacks or defenses by rewriting the "code" of the battlefield, reflecting her problem-solving skills as a director.

Virtual Wall: She summons a barrier of shimmering code, blocking attacks or redirecting them, akin to the giant wall encountered in Death end re;Quest 2’s shopping district.

Endgame Shift: Her ultimate ability, where she stabs "End Requiem" into the ground, temporarily transforming the battlefield into a virtual landscape (like World’s Odyssey). Enemies caught in this space face randomized "game over" effects—stuns, damage over time, or instant knockouts—mimicking the unpredictable "Death Ends" of her original series.

Personality and Inverse Form
Shina retains her determined, resourceful nature from Death end re;Quest, but her Spirit powers amplify her emotional complexity. She’s compassionate yet haunted, often wrestling with her past and the lives she couldn’t save (like Arata’s fate in Death end re;Quest 2). In her Inverse Form, triggered by despair or betrayal, her Astral Dress becomes "Thanatos Thread"—a darker, tattered version with sharp, claw-like extensions. Her Keyblade morphs into a more menacing "End Requiem: Requital", with a blood-red glow and a skeletal spider motif. In this state, her powers turn destructive, unraveling reality itself with chaotic slashes and glitch storms, reflecting her fear of losing control.
Role in Date A Live
In the Date A Live world, Shina’s arrival as a Spirit would likely tie to a mysterious surge in spatial quakes linked to a "virtual dimension" breaching reality—possibly a remnant of World’s Odyssey leaking into the physical plane. Shidou Itsuka would need to seal her powers, navigating her guarded personality and her obsession with "fixing" broken worlds. Her interactions with other Spirits, like Kurumi (with her time manipulation) or Origami (with her tragic past), could deepen her arc, while her Keyblade adds a unique combat dynamic to the group.

Review Showcase
As someone who played this back on the Wii with the english translation patch back in 2010, the game still holds up. And it's still freaking scary. This remaster has everything I ever wanted from it and so much more to make the scares. The amount of pre-orders I put towards it is so worth it.

The isolation horror is a perfect 10

The Atmosphere horror is the scariest so far.

And the ghosts are by far the scariest in the series, not even the ghosts in 1, 2, 3 or 5 can compare to the ghosts in Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

controls do get some getting used to but overall it's still good

But still finally glad to officially be able to play the best Fatal Frame game in the series, without needing a Wii or emulation. Still gonna keep my Wii version though.

Oh yeah so far I've had no issues at all on my PC, it runs perfectly fine.

Also Ruka is best girl, always love her.

UPDATE: Still a good game, go buy it
