Early Access Review
Honestly I don't really know what they were going for with the game. There isn't really an engaging, coherent or present story that drives it, the gameplay is just.... not quite there, and the level design leaves pretty much everything to be desired. The movement feels just downright awful for a first person shooter.

Weapons don't feel weighty or impactful, the inventory system exists and that's about all I can say for it. The gameplay itself isn't fast, nor does it feel particularly skillful and I don't know if I've encountered enemies that can be described as both annoying and awful to deal with as early as I have in Graven.

I am completely bewildered by pretty much every decision that has gone into this game. There's something there, but the devs need to pick a direction and lean into it. It feels like they're trying to blend too many gameplay styles and all it does is make every single one of them worse.

Alright, so imagine the kind of shooter that a teenager living in Boise, Idaho would think up while pretending to pay attention in class around the year 1997 after just having watched hackers and playing Duke Nukem 3D. This is that with all of the maturity, campiness and "no mom, I promise I didn't swear!" that you would expect.

In any other context this would've been considered a terrible mod at best, but the fact that they saw their childhood dream through to reality - it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ beautiful. And it's helped by the fact that everything, every mechanic is solid.

12 hacked gibsons/ 10.

I previously left a scathing review as a result of changes that Gaijin had planned to make to the game that were going to make it even more frustrating to play in the long run, and less approachable to players.

As a result of that, I vowed to not spend any money on the game until that course was reversed, and left my negative review stating as much.

As of today, Gaijin announced not only a hold on those changes, but extensive POSITIVE changes to the game that improve it in virtually every area that the players had concerns with, and then some. Credit where it's due, they listened, and have re-earned my recommendation.

Honestly, I hated everything about this game except for the world itself. The combat is atrocious early on and a joke by mid-late game, plus the camera in combat has a mind of its own and you rarely feel in control. Status effects are not a fun or engaging mechanic aside from "Oh dammit I gotta eat this food right now." Oh what's that? You have an injury that needs a bandage and you have one? ♥♥♥♥ you, you don't know first aid yet, DESPITE YOUR CHARACTER STARTING THE GAME WITH A BANDAGE ON THEIR HAND.

I'm sure someone will come along and tell me to git gud and I don't care. If the game was fun in one way or another I'd keep playing. But it isn't. It's a cult of people who've tricked themselves into thinking they're having fun who will tell you you're wrong or bad at games if you don't think this is a hidden slavjank gem that deserves praise.

Easilly the best innawoods simulator, and best title in the stalker franchise. If you've ever wanted to roam ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nowhere Ukraine in the guise of a looter shooter, look no further. Play Stalker. Drink Vodka. Get lost to the zone. 10/10 would get killed by a mutant again.

This is basically the Dark Souls of RTS games, especially the campaign. The AI is smart, but not cheating levels of BS. Wargame brings back actual strategy into RTS games, and it will punish you for not planning ahead. I mean ♥♥♥♥, even the tutorial THE THINGS DESIGNED TO TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAY WILL KICK YOUR ASS OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT. Which I suppose is my complaint about the game, sure the tutorial tells you objectives and a little about the game, but it doesn't point anything out - it tells you to do a recon mission, but doesn't demonstrate how to do it properly, so I just spammed tanks to win. I still don't know ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the game really, only that it's smart to run a decent variety of vehicles, rather than just MAEK MUHREENS. If you enjoy a REALLY steep learning curve, this is your game, if not then you might still have fun online or in battles against friends, but you're likely better off with something else.

tl;dr A lot of attention to detail and the levels of zoom are great, and its really rewarding to overcome your enemy with a good strategy. Downside is that you need to be prepared for hours of learning everything the game doesn't teach you, or else you'll probably play it once and never again. Go play Age of Empires 2 or CnC or something, because you won't be zerg rushing here.
