Valdis Story is an interesting mix of Metroidvania with some more fighting-game like controls. It has upgradable weapons with very different playstyles to them, as well as four different characters with radically different playstyles adding an additional layer of complexity. There's plenty of hidden stuff to find, including three hidden super bosses. Probably the best feature of the game is the Retry system, which allows you to replay a room from full health/mana if you screw up. This is really good for the aforementioned super bosses which may take a few attempts, but this makes the iteration time so quick that it doesn't hurt much to lose. The lore of the game is similarly interesting, if somewhat predictable. However, the presentation is very believable and that makes it's predictability far better than it'd otherwise be.
