The fact that so many books still name Nintendo "the greatest or most significant or most influential" video game developer ever only tells you how far video games still are from becoming a serious art. Film critics have long recognized that the greatest films of all times are Citizen Kane and The Godfather, which were not the most famous or highest grossing or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Music critics rank the highly controversial Radiohead over pop musicians who are highly popular on FM radio. Video game critics are still blinded by commercial success: Nintendo sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must be the greatest. Film critics watch a lot of films of the past, music critics listen to a lot of music. Video game critics are often totally ignorant of video games, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Nintendo did anything worth of being saved.
